DJCAD graduate Sarah Coey will have her design for a pair of classic hi-top trainers put into production and sold across the UK

26-3-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) graduate Sarah Coey will have her design for a pair of classic hi-top trainers put into production and sold across the UK after winning a national competition.

Sarah (22), who graduated with a Fine Art degree from DJCAD last year, won the Boxfresh Shoe Design Competition after beating off competition from entrants the length and breadth of the country.

The clothing brand teamed up with footwear retailer schuh and the Teenage Cancer Trust to give designers, artists and creative enthusiasts the chance to show off their skills and design their own version of the classic ‘Swich’ hi-top trainer produced by Boxfresh.

Sarah’s entry earned her prize money of £1000 and a placement with the Boxfresh design team. Her winning design will be sold in schuh stores nationwide after the trainers are produced.

“I am unbelievably excited to have won the competition,” she said. “I can’t wait to see my design on peoples feet and will certainly be buying a pair for myself!

“I’ve always been interested in design but have always felt my brain worked differently so that’s why I concentrated on Fine Art. My drawings were going in a direction that I felt made them suitable for this competition so I decided to enter on the off-chance and am delighted I did.

“Taking the placement with the Boxfresh design team will be a fantastic experience and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot.”

The winning entry was selected by a team of industry judges. Boxfresh donated £1 to Teenage Cancer Trust for each entry the competition received, and 10 per cent of each sale of Sarah’s design will also go to the charity.

Sarah, who is based in her home town of Dunblane, primarily creates sculptural drawing. By mounting paper featuring her exquisite drawings on MDF, she creates substantial 3D items and is currently setting up an online store to sell her work from.
