BONN, 29-Oct-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — The leading Swedish retail chain for furniture and home furnishings Mio will use a purchase order (PO) management and visibility solution developed by DHL International Supply Chain, the supply chain management specialist within DHL Global Forwarding. Mio will rely on the solution to gain more control over inbound orders from eight countries, which will in turn help the retailer to reduce detention and demurrage costs while improving intake planning for distribution centers. The contract for DHL to implement and continually optimize the solution will be for three years. By relying on the end-to-end visibility, Mio will attain better control at destination and improve operational processes. Active in the furniture and home furnishings business for almost 60 years, Mio is a a leading Swedish retail chain running e-commerce operations as well as over 70 store locations across Sweden. in 2018, the company has generated sales of $644 million.

Some 4,500 TEU shipping containers coming to Sweden from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, Indonesia, and Taiwan will rely on the PO management and visibility provided by DHL. Mio will make a use of the DHL’s solution to make exceptions so that orders may be sped up or slowed down as needed. Furthermore, DHL International Supply Chain will provide Mio with a suite of bespoke reports, highlighting areas for improvement in addition to the day-to-day origin and destination operations. DHL’s experts will use the insights from those reports to continually develop Mio’s solution to ensure a smooth and efficient supply chain flow.

By using the DHL’s PO management and visibility solution Mio and its logistics partners will be able to plan and execute the movement of shipments from the port into its warehousing network via multiple modes.

While Mio will attain control over intake demands earlier in the process and proactively controlling the impacts of demurrage and detention, the visibility will extend to all partners.

Port rationalization and CFS conversion projects to reduce overall shipment count and costs are among the projects in the joint development pipeline between DHL and Mio.
