BONN, 15-Nov-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — DHL Freight is making an eight-figure investment in the construction of a state-of-the-art freight hub at the Hanover Airport Business Park in Langenhagen. In the future, around 260 employees will take care of day-to-day scheduling and consolidation for the company’s European freight network from the new site. The facility, which has been designed in accordance with the latest environmental standards, will make a decisive contribution to further increasing DHL Freight’s service quality for LTL (less than truckload) and FTL (full truck load) transport. Ground is scheduled to be broken at the new site at the beginning of 2018.

“With the help of our FREIGHT 2020 program, we want to establish DHL Freight as a quality leader in overland transport in the long term. Only by investing in our people, in our service and in our network will this be possible. And the new freight center in Langenhagen near Hanover represents an important step forward in this regard,” explains Uwe Brinks, CEO DHL Freight.

The Langenhagen site near Hanover Airport was chosen for its good transport connections for both long-haul and short-haul transport. DHL Freight is building a brand new, strategically important hub for its European road transport network on the 63,000 sqm site. A transshipment terminal equipped with over 80 loading bays and stretching across more than 7,800 sqm will provide sufficient capacity to process in excess of 600,000 tons of LTL cargo per annum. The development of the DHL Freight site also includes the consolidation of the two existing Hanover sites (Stelingerstrasse and Büttnerstrasse) at the new location.

The new Langenhagen site will not only handle DHL Freight’s LTL service but will also play a decisive role for the company’s FTL service. There, a dedicated team of Euronet experts will handle the complex transport requirements of customers both at home and abroad, providing tailored logistics solutions ranging from onsite transport management to end-to-end design and optimization of incoming and outgoing commodity flows.

As part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, DHL Freight is also committed to shared objectives for sustainable development, one of which is the Group target of reducing all logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050. In keeping with this objective, the new location will conform to the standards set out by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and, as such, will be eligible for the DGNB gold certificate. In a bid to keep energy consumption to a minimum and conserve resources, the new site will also incorporate environmentally-friendly technologies, including a photovoltaic system and heat exchange pumps.
