(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 9-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Deutsche Telekom is intensifying its commitment to combat disinformation with the launch of a new, hard-hitting commercial on August 9 as part of its ongoing “No Hate Speech” initiative. The commercial, designed to raise awareness about the rapid and dangerous spread of false information, uses a powerful visual metaphor of an invisible wildfire to illustrate how unchecked disinformation can threaten society and democratic values.

The campaign’s central message, “Let’s question what we share,” emphasizes the importance of critically evaluating the information we encounter online. Christian Hahn, Head of Marketing Communications and Media at Deutsche Telekom, highlighted the urgency of the issue, noting that disinformation spreads six times faster than true news and can severely impact societal trust and cohesion.

The commercial depicts everyday people in seemingly safe and harmonious situations, where disinformation sneaks in unnoticed, symbolized by a piece of cloth soaked in fuel that ignites and spreads rapidly. The dramatic imagery drives home the message that false information can escalate quickly if not questioned, ultimately threatening societal well-being.

Deutsche Telekom’s campaign also underscores the importance of collective action. By collaborating with partners like CORRECTIV, Teachtoday, and the “Digital Angel” project, the company aims to equip the public with the tools to recognize and combat disinformation. The campaign also acknowledges the dual role of artificial intelligence (AI) in both spreading and combating false information, with Deutsche Telekom working on AI-driven solutions to address the issue.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Nora Fingscheidt and created by Saatchi & Saatchi under the leadership of Dennis May, the campaign will be widely distributed across various media platforms, including TV, cinema, online, radio, and social media.

The launch of this campaign marks Deutsche Telekom’s continued dedication to fostering a safer and more informed digital environment.
