Deutsche Telekom extends its security analytics services to its external customers

BONN, 21-Mar-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — The amount of security-relevant information that Deutsche Telekom processes is mind-boggling: more than a billion data points in the Internet and in the companies’ own systems – every single day. For many years, Deutsche Telekom has been successfully logging, analyzing, processing and compressing such data volumes in its Security Operations Centers (SOCs). The security analysts intelligently filter out any items of relevance – and process data on suspicious events in fractions of a second. On an ongoing basis, they feed data to experts who analyze any actual incidents and act to take any necessary countermeasures.

This arrangement has functioned very successfully for the company’s own infrastructure. Now, Deutsche Telekom is increasingly extending it to its business customers as a managed service.

Another DAX-listed company is now trusting in the experience and expertise of Telekom Security: just in time for CeBIT 2017, the company and Deutsche Telekom have signed a contract for Security Operations Center services. The deal focuses on threat and vulnerability management, along with modern analytics for ensuring uninterrupted operations of the customer’s infrastructure.

Providing customers with security operation services is part of the strategy of Deutsche Telekom’s new business unit, Telekom Security. With these Managed Security services, all of which build on the Magenta Security portfolio, Telekom Security aims to become a European leader in cyber security. Depending on the customer’s needs, the Managed Security services are either delivered exclusively from Germany or within a cross-border, European SOC framework that includes services from Slovakia and Hungary, for example.

Our primary focus lies on continuous monitoring at all levels: network, operating system activities, content, user behavior patterns and application transactions,” says Dirk Backofen, Head of Telekom Security.  Backofen continues: “With an individual mix of the best monitoring and analysis tools, combined with our massive threat intelligence database, we can offer our customers the flexible resources and complementary technologies they need for all possible applications – including manufacturing and industry.”

One of the great advantages of Telekom Security services is that Telekom Security has an enormous pool of “use cases,” or rules for identifying truly relevant anomalies. Use cases are developed from findings obtained about attacks. The intelligent correlation of security events and the ongoing mapping of new attack vectors results in ever-improving filters for relevant alerts. “Without meaningful, efficient search rules, even the best monitoring technology will not get very far. In this context, our years of experience and regular interchange with other security specialists and innovative manufacturers are the guarantee for our customers that we can achieve the highest detection rates with a minimum of false positives,” adds Dirk Backofen.

The SOC activities cover all areas of the prevent/detect/respond analysis and can be booked flexibly: from regular office hours to 24/7/365 coverage. The offered services include active security monitoring and management, Threat Intelligence as a Service, the targeted analysis of compromise indicators and defined reaction times in incident response and forensics. The services are provided via Deutsche Telekom’s own Security Operations Centers, by staff with years of experience in the detection, analysis and elimination of vulnerabilities in the cyber security area. More than 30 corporate and large SME customers currently use Telekom Security SOC solutions as Managed Security services.

To meet the increasing demand, Deutsche Telekom is currently building a new, integrated Cyber Defense and Security Operations Center in Bonn.
