DCNS to participate in the LAAD exhibition in Rio from 14 to 17 April 2015

DCNS signed in 2009 a contract for the Brazilian PROSUB programme. This major contract for DCNS at international level relates to the construction of four Scorpene®-class submarines for the Brazilian Navy and technical assistance with the design of the non-nuclear parts of the first Brazilian nuclear-powered submarine. It includes engineering services for conceptual design provided to the client for the construction of a naval base and new shipyard. To complete this ambitious submarine programme, DCNS joined forces with Odebrecht to form Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN, which is 59%-owned by Odebrecht, and 41% by DCNS), the company that will produce the submarines.

The DCNS exhibit at LAAD will feature the Gowind® 2500, the OPV 90 Kership, the projection and command ships Mistral 170 (14 000 t), the FREMM frigate, the Scorpene® 2000 submarine with Subtics®, the MU 90 and Canto. Moreover, DCNS presents the POLARIS® mission system and I2C maritime surveillance system.

Gowind® 2500 is an exceptional tool for missions ranging from counter-piracy to sea control and denial including anti-submarine warfare operations. Equipped with a SETIS® combat management system, based on the one equipping the FREMM frigates, the different models from the Gowind® range are veritable military units. These corvettes have been designed to be simple to operate, easy to maintain and efficient. Gowind® platforms and mission systems can be tailored to customer requirements for an optimum trade-off between homeland security and naval combat capabilities.

DCNS has designed the FREMM frigates to offer highly facilitated maintenance, the key to improved operational availability: the design foresees widened passageways to facilitate access during maintenance, dedicated access for maintenance, increased engine compartment volume.

Kership, a joint venture between DCNS and Piriou, offers a complete range of ships from 40 to 95 m long designed for State action at sea. This wide range comprises robust, reliable ships that are easy to operate and maintain, fitted with mission systems meeting the needs of the customer. It includes offshore patrol vessels, multi-mission ships, and specialised ships such as maritime training ships, landing ships and hydrographic survey ships.

The DCNS Mistral range consists of two projection and command ships: Mistral 170 (14 000 t) and Mistral 200 (22 000 t). DCNS designed the 22,000-ton Mistral-class ships according to the French Navy’s operational requirements. In response to emerging operational needs identified by other navies, DCNS also offers a range of ships with various displacements starting from 14,000 tons (Mistral 170). The range benefits from the proven design of the Mistral-class ships in service with the French Navy.

The Scorpene 2000 submarines, already chosen by the Royal Malaysian Navy, represent the state-of-the-art in submarine design and construction and benefit from the latest technologies developed for nuclear-powered classes operated by the French Navy, particularly as regards acoustic discretion and combat system performance.

The POLARIS® mission system – in operational service since 2012 on board the OPV L’Adroit – has been designed for surveillance and operation missions in littoral waters. It is used in conducting surveillance and protection missions such as the counter-piracy, surveillance and protection of exclusive economic zones (EEZ), the fight against trafficking, and convoy protection. The system manages combat against asymmetric threats. In its most complete version, it incorporates antisurface warfare capability with fire-and-forget very short range air defence (VSHORAD) missiles. POLARIS® also supports networked operation.
