Connect magazine named Swisscom winner of its network test for five consecutive years

Connect magazine has named Swisscom as the winner of its network test for the fifth year in a row, proving that Swisscom has Switzerland’s best mobile telephony network. Swisscom received top marks for both telephony and its data communication services. The win is the result of Swisscom’s huge investment in the expansion of its infrastructure in Switzerland, on which it spent a total of CHF 1.75 billion in 2013 alone. Swisscom is modernising its entire mobile network and massively expanding its provision of latest-generation 4G/LTE mobile technology. Eight-five per cent of the Swiss population can already use the high-speed 4G/LTE network. Swisscom expects to have about a million 4G/LTE customers on its 4G/LTE network by the end of the year.

Bern, Switzerland, 07-12-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Swisscom has been named the winner of Connect magazine’s test for the fifth year in succession. This year too, Swisscom was the only Swiss telecoms company in the test to be rated “very good”. “This is yet more proof that high investment in infrastructure is worth it for our customers”, said Heinz Herren, Swisscom’s Head of Network and Infrastructure, about the result. Thanks to the rapid modernisation of its mobile network, Swisscom already provides about 85 per cent coverage with 4G/LTE. By year end, some 1400 municipalities – including more than 140 cities – will have 4G/LTE. Added to this, about a million Swisscom customers will have a 4G/LTE-compatible device and therefore be able to benefit from the fastest mobile technology available today.

Successful modernisation of the entire mobile network
The volume of data transferred on the mobile network is currently doubling every 12 months. For this reason, Swisscom is modernising its entire mobile telephony network by mid-2014. More than two-thirds of all locations in Switzerland already have access to the latest technologies. But Swisscom isn’t investing exclusively in 4G/LTE. It is also improving its 3G coverage significantly, especially outside major urban areas. By the end of 2014, 99 per cent of the Swiss population will be able to benefit from high bandwidths of up to 42 mbps – even if they don’t own a 4G/LTE-compatible mobile phone.
