Conductor Kent Nagano to lead the “Vorsprung Festival” as part of the Audi Summer Concerts

  • 2014, 2015 and 2016: new “festival within a festival”
  • Concert series focusing on Audi Youth Choir Academy
  • Kent Nagano signs the “Golden Book” of the city of Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt, 11-7-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Up until 2016 inclusive, conductor Kent Nagano will be leading the “Vorsprung Festival” as part of the Audi Summer Concerts. In its first year, the new series comprises five concerts. The focus is on two performances by the Audi Youth Choir Academy with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Nagano will sign the “Golden Book” of the city of Ingolstadt on July 10.

The internationally celebrated conductor Kent Nagano has already worked with the Audi Youth Choir Academy on several occasions. Up until 2016, the American will be leading the “Vorsprung Festival” that will expand on the program of events for the Audi Summer Concerts. “We’re delighted that we have now been able to sign up Kent Nagano for this long-term partnership following on from the successful one-off projects,” commented Sebastian Wieser, cultural officer of AUDI AG. Nagano will sign the “Golden Book” of the city of Ingolstadt on July 10.

The “Vorsprung Festival” will focus on the Audi Youth Choir Academy, which currently consists of around 90 young people. Its two concerts with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nagano (July 10 and 13, Festival Hall of Ingolstadt City Theater) deal with the extremes of human existence. Antonín Dvořák’s Requiem and the Resurrection Symphony by Gustav Mahler forms a bridge between life and death in both a liturgical sense and in symphonic terms.

The “festival within a festival” also provides a platform for renowned musicians such as pianist Rudolf Buchbinder (July 16), tenor Ian Bostridge (July 11) and the ChorWerk Ruhr ensemble (July 12). Following the evening of Lieder by Ian Bostridge, the members of the Youth Choir Academy will have an opportunity to chat with the singer as well as with Kent Nagano. This – along with the performance by the young award-winning cellist Raphaela Gromes in the same concert as Rudolf Buchbinder – reflects Nagano’s desire that the “Vorsprung Festival” should provide a platform for talented young people to meet internationally renowned artists.

Tickets for the Audi Summer Concerts are available at all DONAUKURIER advance ticket offices, at the Tourist Information at Ingolstadt’s main train station, at the Ticket Service in Westpark, at advance ticket offices with a Munich ticket connection and at Ticketshop Karlskron. Tickets are also available online at www.sommerkonzerte.de or by phone on +49 841 9591 9591.
