(IN BRIEF) Colas has secured a €70 million contract through US subsidiary Sully-Miller Contracting Co. to reconstruct the westernmost mile of Taxiway A and part of Taxiway F at Los Angeles International Airport for Los Angeles World Airports, further expanding its role in the modernisation of one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs. Taxiway A, which is heavily used by cargo aircraft, supports more than 2.4 million metric tons of freight annually, while the Taxiway F works will take place between two active runways, requiring construction to proceed without disrupting air traffic operations. Work on Taxiway A is scheduled for 2027, followed by Taxiway F in early 2028, with Sully-Miller teams expected to work up to 20 hours per day, six days a week, to complete the programme ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The project is Sully-Miller’s eighth assignment for LAWA in seven years, taking the value of contracts awarded since 2019 to more than €350 million. It follows two additional LAX projects awarded in 2025 worth €31 million and €36 million respectively and reinforces Colas’ position in complex airport and transportation infrastructure construction.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 9-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Colas, through its US subsidiary Sully-Miller Contracting Co., has been awarded a €70 million contract by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to carry out the complete reconstruction of the westernmost mile of Taxiway A and part of Taxiway F at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The project strengthens Colas’ longstanding relationship with LAWA and adds to a series of major airport infrastructure assignments currently being delivered by Sully-Miller at LAX.

Construction on Taxiway A is scheduled for 2027, while work on Taxiway F is planned for early 2028, with completion targeted ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The contract was added to Colas’ order backlog in August 2026.

Major reconstruction programme at one of the world’s busiest airports

Los Angeles International Airport is the seventh-busiest airport in the world and serves as the principal international gateway to Southern California.

The airport recorded approximately 580,000 aircraft movements in 2025, underlining the operational complexity involved in reconstructing critical airside infrastructure while maintaining continuous airport activity.

Taxiway A plays a particularly important role in cargo operations. Primarily used by freight aircraft, it supports the movement of more than 2.4 million metric tons of cargo annually, making LAX the fifth-largest airport in the United States by cargo volume.

Taxiway F works to proceed between two active runways

The reconstruction of Taxiway F will present an additional operational challenge because the taxiway is situated between two active runways.

Sully-Miller will therefore need to execute the works while maintaining ongoing air traffic operations and complying with the airport’s strict safety and operational requirements.

The company’s teams are expected to work six days per week and for as many as 20 hours per day to meet the project’s compressed construction schedule.

Completion is planned before Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympic Games, increasing the importance of schedule management and operational coordination.

Sully-Miller already delivering two additional LAX projects

The new contract extends an established working relationship between Sully-Miller Contracting Company and Los Angeles World Airports.

Sully-Miller is currently delivering two other projects at LAX that were awarded in 2025.

These include the LAX Taxiway C Easterly Extension Project, valued at approximately €31 million, and the MATOC South Terminals Taxiway Reconstruction project, valued at approximately €36 million.

The latest €70 million contract becomes the eighth project undertaken by Sully-Miller for LAWA during the past seven years.

Since 2019, the relationship has generated more than €350 million in construction contracts.

Colas highlights experience in maintaining airport operations during construction

John Harrington, President and CEO of Colas USA, said the company’s longstanding partnership with Los Angeles World Airports reflects its experience in complex airport construction environments.

He highlighted Sully-Miller’s understanding of the operational constraints involved in working at an active international airport and the importance of maintaining continuity throughout construction.

Harrington said the latest award continues an established collaboration and demonstrates Colas USA’s airport infrastructure capabilities.

Colas sees contract as confirmation of specialist airport expertise

Pierre Vanstoflegatte, Chief Executive Officer of the Colas Group, said the contract reflects the confidence LAWA has placed in Colas’ teams and expertise.

He said the project demonstrates the Group’s ability to deliver technically complex airport infrastructure works where safety, operational continuity and adherence to strict deadlines are critical.

The contract also reinforces Colas’ position in the US transportation infrastructure market, particularly in California.

Global airport infrastructure portfolio continues to expand

Colas has developed extensive experience in the construction, reconstruction and modernisation of airport infrastructure internationally.

Recent projects have included runway renovation works at Paris-Orly Airport, Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, as well as delivery of the third runway at Bangkok Airport.

The new LAX contract extends that portfolio and provides another large-scale example of the Group working within an active airport environment where construction must be carefully coordinated with ongoing flight operations.

Colas strengthens transport infrastructure presence in California

The award further consolidates the company’s position in California and across the wider US transportation infrastructure market.

Through Sully-Miller, Colas has established a significant presence at Los Angeles International Airport, with cumulative LAWA contracts exceeding €350 million since 2019.

The company said the latest project demonstrates the value of its local operating capabilities combined with the wider engineering, construction and airport infrastructure expertise available across the Colas Group.

Colas global operations

Colas, a subsidiary of Bouygues Group, operates across the construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure and urban development.

Its activities extend across the value chain from industrial production to construction and service provision.

The Group operates in around 50 countries across five continents and generated consolidated revenue of approximately €16 billion in 2025, with 59% of revenue generated outside France.

Colas employs approximately 62,000 people, operates a network of around 2,000 operating units incorporating 3,500 production units, and delivers close to 45,000 projects annually.
