MANCHESTER, 13-Aug-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Co-op Divisional Managing Director, Tina Mitchell, has been confirmed as a finalist in the Barclaycard everywoman in Retail Awards, 2018.

The prestigious awards, which were founded in 2007, searched for “pioneering finalists who defy tradition”.

Judges unanimously agreed that modern retailing is a far cry from its traditional image, with retailers growing closer to their customers and understanding far more about individual needs.

Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of everywoman, comments: “This year’s finalists sparked a crucial debate around redefining retail. We are witnessing more women dispelling traditional models and are creating products and services that fit the customer first, rather than trying to attract customers to what already exists. Others are demonstrating stellar leadership within the companies for which they work. We aim to elevate the conversation around the role of women in advancing the British retail industry.”

Tina Mitchell, Divisional Managing Director, Co-op Food, said: “I am proud to be a finalist. At the Co-op, inclusivity and diversity is at the heart of all that we do. As is getting closer to the needs of our Members and customers – what they need and care about. Dynamic, changing, challenging, innovative and exciting are all adjectives which can be used to describe modern retailing. We cannot achieve our ambitions though without a great team, and such a team demands a full range of skills and experiences, representing the communities which we serve. I believe it is vital that we continue to raise awareness and highlight the vast array of career opportunities that exist within retail, it is essential if we are to attract the next generation to the industry and, develop a pipeline of talent for tomorrow. I am passionate about providing the opportunities and support which will empower people to be the very best that they can be, removing barriers, and being alert to potential, which is particularly rewarding when people haven’t yet recognised the potential and possibilities which exists in themselves.”

Winners will be announced on Thursday, 13 September 2018 at an awards ceremony at East Wintergarden, London.
