CERN on reported defaced LGBT posters: Homophobic behaviour at CERN is not tolerated

GENEVA, 24-Mar-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — As first reported by Physics World, CERN had to deal with defaced posters of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) group. CERN considers that these acts are unacceptable. They were strongly and publicly condemned.

Homophobic behaviour at CERN is not tolerated.  Disciplinary actions against people identified to have such behaviour have been taken and will be taken again as needed.

CERN is fully committed to promoting diversity and equality, at all levels. It is one of CERN’s core values as clearly reflected in our Code of Conduct as well as in several organisational policies.

CERN is a culturally diverse organization bringing together people from over 100 different nationalities. It is a place where everyone is welcome, and where anyone can succeed, regardless of her or his ethnicity, beliefs or sexual orientation.

Scientists from all over the world have been working in a harmonious way for more than 60 years at CERN, and the Organization will strive to continue its scientific mission in a peaceful and inclusive environment.
