Cefic welcomes the launch of the new European Union Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON) hosted by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA)

BRUSSELS, 14-Jun-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — To support greater access to clear information on nanomaterials – tiny particles with unique properties for advanced manufacturing –  a new European Union Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON) is now live, hosted by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

Cefic welcomes the launch of this website, which forms the first phase of the initiative, and congratulates ECHA on continuing to proactively provide consumers and workers with important information that supports chemical safety.

By collecting readily available data from various sources, including REACH, the EU’s chemicals Regulation, this observatory will offer greater access to easy-to-understand information on nanomaterials. Cefic will proactively collaborate with ECHA and other stakeholders in setting up the observatory.

Background

The decision to develop the observatory was taken by the Commission after an impact assessment on transparency was concluded as part of the of the Second Regulatory Review on Nanomaterials. Through the assessment, the Commission concluded that this observatory offers good transparency in a cost-effective manner. In December 2016, ECHA and the Commission signed an agreement naming ECHA the host of the observatory.
