(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 26-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The UK’s largest cross-sector business organization, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), has announced the appointment of two new Non-Executive Directors to its Board: Ruth Cairnie, Chair of Babcock International Group and Senior Independent Director at BT Group, and Lesley Ann Nash, who currently holds several non-executive roles, including with St James’s Place plc, Workspace Group plc, and Homes England.

The selection process, led by the CBI Nominations Committee, was chaired by Rupert Soames, with input from Senior Independent Director Victoria Cochrane. Both Cairnie and Nash will stand for election at the CBI’s Annual General Meeting on October 22, 2024.

Ruth Cairnie brings a wealth of experience from her executive career at Royal Dutch Shell, including in strategy, M&A, and supply chain management, and from her leadership roles at major corporations such as Associated British Foods. Commenting on her appointment, Cairnie highlighted the critical need for collaboration between government and business, positioning the CBI as a key player in driving the UK economy forward.

Lesley Ann Nash, a former senior Civil Servant with a background in investment banking at UBS and Morgan Stanley, also emphasized the CBI’s role in fostering dialogue between business and government, particularly during times of economic challenge. She expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the CBI’s mission of supporting UK businesses.

Rupert Soames, Chair of CBI, expressed confidence in the new appointments, stating that both Cairnie and Nash bring invaluable expertise from both the private and public sectors. He believes their insights will help guide the CBI as it enters its 60th year and works to partner with the incoming government to support economic growth.
