Capgemini Report Highlights Generative AI’s Role in Transforming Entry-Level Careers and Management Practices

(IN BRIEF) The latest report from the Capgemini Research Institute, titled Gen AI at Work: Shaping the Future of Organizations, reveals how generative AI (Gen AI) is poised to significantly impact entry-level careers and organizational structures across industries. The study shows that employees expect Gen AI to handle around a third of their tasks within the next year, while leaders and managers foresee a shift in entry-level roles towards reviewing AI outputs instead of creating them. Furthermore, over 78% of leaders believe AI will enhance problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, potentially transforming management roles into more specialized, strategic positions. However, despite this optimism, Gen AI adoption remains in its early stages, with most employees lacking the necessary skills and training. The report highlights the need for organizations to prioritize workforce development, define new roles, and establish clear AI-human collaboration frameworks to fully leverage the potential of Gen AI.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 17-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Generative AI is expected to reshape the landscape of entry-level jobs across multiple industries, according to a new report from the Capgemini Research Institute. The report, titled Gen AI at Work: Shaping the Future of Organizations, highlights the growing role of AI in supporting entry-level tasks and accelerating career progression. Employees predict that generative AI will manage about 32% of their tasks within the next year, while six in 10 managers foresee a shift from task creation to reviewing AI-generated outputs in entry-level roles over the next three years. Additionally, more than 78% of leaders believe AI will enhance their problem-solving and decision-making processes, with managerial roles likely evolving toward specialization. Despite these advancements, the report finds that actual AI adoption remains limited, with only 20% of employees using AI tools daily, and most feeling unprepared for the AI-driven future due to insufficient training.

Roshan Gya, CEO of Capgemini Invent, noted the potential of generative AI to evolve from a support tool to a strategic collaborator, capable of enhancing decision-making and adding new perspectives in organizations. Gya emphasized the importance of equipping employees with the right skills and ensuring that businesses take proactive steps to integrate generative AI into their operations effectively. While AI adoption remains at an early stage, the report underscores the need for companies to focus on building AI proficiency within their teams to unlock the full potential of generative AI, particularly in management roles.

The report also explores the potential transformation of management, where AI is increasingly seen as a tool for augmenting decision-making, saving time on administrative tasks, and allowing leaders to focus more on strategic initiatives. Currently, AI is used in a limited capacity in most organizations, but the report predicts that its role will expand over the next year, with 13% of teams expecting AI to take on a supervisory role. To fully harness the power of AI, the report calls for organizations to prioritize training and redefine workflows for effective human-AI collaboration.

Capgemini’s study surveyed 1,500 executives and 1,000 entry-level employees across 15 countries and 11 industries, drawing insights from a mix of leadership, middle-management, and entry-level roles. The findings illustrate the significant potential of generative AI to transform organizations but also highlight the gap between its perceived potential and actual usage. As AI continues to develop, organizations must ensure that their workforce is prepared to collaborate with AI systems to maximize productivity and innovation.
