BUUT partners with footballer Denzel Dumfries to make financial education fun and accessible for Dutch youth

(IN BRIEF) BUUT, the new neobank from the creators of Tikkie and part of ABN AMRO, has partnered with Dutch international footballer Denzel Dumfries to teach teenagers money management skills in an engaging and relatable way. The collaboration will see Dumfries co-create content for BUUT’s app, website, and social media, focusing on budgeting, saving, and financial responsibility. With features like payment and savings pots, competitive savings interest, and direct Tikkie integration, BUUT helps young people experience budgeting first-hand. Dumfries, who also runs the youth-focused DUCE initiative in Rotterdam, aims to inspire teens by sharing his own experiences of learning to manage money while growing up.

(PRESS RELEASE) AMSTERDAM, 16-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — BUUT, the new digital bank created by the team behind Tikkie, has announced a partnership with Dutch international footballer Denzel Dumfries to help young people learn how to budget, save, and manage their money responsibly. The initiative aims to make financial education engaging, accessible, and relevant, equipping the next generation with tools to build financial resilience.

Unlike traditional sponsorships, the partnership will see Dumfries actively involved in content creation for social media, BUUT’s app, and its website. The focus will be on practical guidance around budgeting, saving, and tracking spending, with material co-developed with teenagers to ensure it speaks directly to their experiences.

BUUT, launched as part of ABN AMRO, provides a user-friendly app that introduces financial planning through “pots” for payments and savings. Young users are required to choose which pot to spend from, making the process of budgeting tangible and easy to grasp. Empty pots mean no further spending—a direct and clear lesson in managing money. The app also offers 3% interest on savings up to €1,500 and 1.5% above this, alongside the integration of Tikkie payment requests. New customers receive a €25 starting credit once their first allowance is transferred into the app.

Sanne van Kuijk, Head of Growth at BUUT, explained: “Many teenagers today are financially vulnerable, and one in five parents feels unsure about teaching their children how to handle money. BUUT gives families tools to manage allowances and spending more effectively. Denzel Dumfries is an inspiring role model for Dutch youth—grounded, hardworking, and committed to helping young people. We’re thrilled to work with him to create content that will make money management both fun and meaningful.”

Sharing his own perspective, Dumfries said: “I know what it means to grow up having to be careful with every euro. Until I was 18, I had a normal life like many kids in the Netherlands, with a part-time job at a supermarket. It taught me the importance of being smart with money, but I also saw how things can go wrong if you don’t learn those skills early. With BUUT, I want to help teenagers see budgeting as something positive and empowering, so we can contribute to building a financially strong generation.”

Beyond football, Dumfries is also deeply engaged in community initiatives. Together with his family, he runs DUCE (Dumfries Unlimited Care and Education), an education centre in South Rotterdam that supports vulnerable young people. DUCE recently expanded with The Young Harvest, a restaurant offering young people their first opportunities in the workplace.

BUUT’s partnership with Dumfries builds on this commitment to youth development, combining digital innovation with a socially driven mission to prepare young people for the financial challenges of the future.
