(PRESS RELEASE) EXETER, 3-Aug-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — One of the world’s most respected business coaches will return to Exeter this autumn to offer advice and build a region-wide discussion on leadership.

John Amaechi OBE, who is an Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter Business School, spoke with warmth, wit and wisdom about the challenges facing today’s business leaders at his last panel event at the Business School, held last spring.

A respected organisational psychologist, New York Times bestselling author, Chartered Scientist, and sought after public speaker, John became the first person from the UK to have a career as an NBA basketball player before forging a highly successful career away from sport.

While in Devon, John aims to build a region-wide discussion on leadership with key CEOs from across the area and will also be holding a breakfast event for CEOs and senior leaders with Charles Courtenay, the Earl of Devon, Professor Alexandra Gerbasi, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty for Environment, Science and Economy and Professor Stuart Brocklehurst, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Business Engagement and Innovation.

For the lunchtime event, on 11 September, John will be ‘in conversation’ with Erika Brodnock MBE, an award-winning entrepreneur, philanthropist, author, angel investor and Fellow of the University of Exeter Business School, with the pair set to discuss the big challenges facing today’s leaders, from socio-political chaos to the climate crisis, to supporting the wellbeing of staff teams.

Erika is Sky News’s resident parenting expert, and co-founder of Extend Ventures, The Black Funding Network and Kinhub, which provides data-driven coaching and personalised employee support.

She is one of 16 Black women in the UK to have raised more than £1m in startup funding, and is also a Non-Executive Director of The Good Play Guide as well as serving on the APPG for Entrepreneurship advisory board.

The pair will share their expertise with an audience of business leaders, students and alumni on how to lead authentically through times of uncertainty and change.

They will then be joined by a panel of leaders and leadership experts, who will debate how today’s leaders can best navigate the urgent challenges of our times.

The panellists will include Professor Ilke Inceoglu, Director of the Exeter Centre for Leadership at the University of Exeter Business School, as well as the social psychologist and leadership coach Dr Elicia Robinson and Matt Swarwick, Director of Sales and Engagement at the Chartered Management Institute.

The interactive event will give business leaders the opportunity to learn and engage with John, Erika and the expert panel members on issues of leadership theory and practice.

John will be available to sign copies of his book, ‘The Promises of Giants’ afterwards, and there will be a free buffet lunch where delegates will be able to network and discuss the challenges of changing things for the better.
