BT Gears Up for Global Fabric, Accelerating Multi-Cloud Connectivity for AI-Driven Businesses

(IN BRIEF) BT has initiated live testing for its new network-as-a-service (NaaS) platform, Global Fabric, set to launch in early 2025. The platform aims to revolutionize cloud connectivity for businesses by offering secure, scalable, and resilient connections, particularly for AI-driven applications. Global Fabric will reduce setup times for network configurations from weeks to mere moments, enabling businesses to manage surges in data traffic efficiently. With points of presence (PoPs) in over 45 key global cloud data centers, expanding to 140, the platform ensures widespread access for companies. BT is also launching a demo portal in November, allowing customers to test configurations and integrate APIs before the full service rollout. The platform is designed to support businesses’ future growth in a cloud-dominated market, particularly in AI technologies.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 1-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BT is paving the way for the launch of its new network-as-a-service (NaaS) platform, Global Fabric, with live testing currently underway. The platform, designed to enhance cloud connectivity, will officially launch in early 2025 and aims to revolutionize how businesses connect to cloud-hosted services, including artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Global Fabric offers secure, scalable, and resilient connectivity, allowing businesses to quickly respond to surges in data traffic driven by AI technologies.

BT has already deployed Global Fabric points of presence (PoPs) in more than 45 of the world’s key cloud data centers, with plans to expand to 140 locations. This extensive coverage ensures that businesses can select the best cloud locations to meet their operational and regulatory requirements. For companies without existing connections to these cloud data centers, BT is facilitating the installation of new network links, ensuring they are prepared for the full launch of Global Fabric in 2025.

To help customers adapt to the platform, BT is introducing a demo of Global Fabric’s digital management portal in November. This will allow IT teams to experiment with multi-cloud network configurations and integrate application programmable interfaces (APIs) to enhance innovation and streamline operations. The portal will provide customers with the flexibility to manage network configurations in real time, drastically reducing the time needed to set up or adjust connectivity services compared to legacy networks.

Colin Bannon, Chief Technology Officer at BT Business, emphasized the significance of Global Fabric, stating, “BT’s Global Fabric will help customers hit the cloud running. It offers them the flexibility to connect with customers, partners, and suppliers through the world’s leading cloud locations. This is not just about today’s business needs but about preparing for the future, especially with the rise of AI.”

The platform’s PoPs are strategically placed in carrier-neutral facilities, making it easier for businesses to connect to their applications and workloads in the multi-cloud environment. This infrastructure will support businesses as they navigate the complexities of AI and digital interconnectivity, offering unparalleled speed and reliability in data traffic management.

BT’s Global Fabric marks a significant step toward creating an AI-ready digital infrastructure, empowering businesses with the tools they need to thrive in a cloud-driven economy.
