British actor Tamsin Greig received an honorary degree from the University of Birmingham

CITY, Country, 14-Jul-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — British actor Tamsin Greig has received an honorary degree from the University of Birmingham.

The award-winning stage, film, television and radio actor joined other honorary graduates and more than 5,000 students collecting their degrees this month in the University’s iconic Great Hall.

Tamsin is famous on both sides of the Atlantic for her work in the British/American television sitcom ‘Episodes’, as well as TV comedy series such as ‘Love Soup’ and ‘Green Wing’.

After receiving her Doctor of the University award from University of Birmingham Chancellor Lord Bilimoria, both pictured above, she said:

“It is a huge honour to be here and accept this honorary degree. I am very attached to Birmingham – I got my degree here in Drama and Theatre Arts. My first professional acting job was at the Midlands Arts Centre; I play a regular character in The Archers and, in 2006, I was part of the Complete Works festival at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. City of Birmingham and the West Midlands, for all you have given me, I thank you.”

Tamsin won an Olivier Award and Critics Circle Award for her performance as Beatrice in Marianne Elliott’s RSC production of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.

She is a Public Figure for the international relief and development Charity ‘Tearfund’, and is a mentor with the University of Birmingham’s Alumni Leadership Mentoring Programme.
