(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 2-Sep-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — bp p.l.c. has appointed Ian Tyler as Chair of the company with immediate effect, following an extensive search process that considered both internal and external candidates.

Tyler joined the bp Board as a Non-Executive Director in April 2025 and was appointed Interim Chair on 26 May 2026.

He brings extensive board-level experience across listed and privately held companies in the oil and gas, natural resources and engineering sectors. During his non-executive career, Tyler has worked alongside more than 15 chief executives.

He is currently Chair of Grafton Group plc and Senior Independent Director of Anglo American plc. His previous roles include Chair of Cairn Energy plc and Non-Executive Director of BAE Systems plc.

Board unanimously backs Ian Tyler

Dame Amanda Blanc, bp’s Senior Independent Director, said the board had unanimously appointed Tyler following the search process.

She said his experience in providing both challenge and support to executive management, while maintaining strong governance and shareholder oversight, had been evident during his tenure as Interim Chair.

Blanc added that Tyler had earned the confidence of both the board and executive management through his leadership, judgement and integrity.

Tyler said he was honoured to have been appointed Chair and highlighted his recent work with Meg O’Neill.

He said he intends to lead the evolution of bp’s board to ensure it has the depth, experience and capabilities needed to support the company’s strategic priorities and long-term value creation.

Tyler also committed to regular and transparent engagement with shareholders and to supporting bp’s wider leadership team as it works to deliver performance and shareholder value.

Dame Amanda Blanc to leave bp Board

bp also announced that Dame Amanda Blanc will not stand for re-election at the company’s 2027 Annual General Meeting.

She will step down from the board once a successor has been appointed as Senior Independent Director.

Tyler thanked Blanc for her contribution to bp, saying he had asked her to remain but respected her view that, after four years on the board and having completed the Chair search process, the time was appropriate to begin planning her departure.

He said he had personally valued her insight and counsel and welcomed her decision to remain in place until a successor is appointed.

Blanc said it had been an honour to serve on bp’s board and as Senior Independent Director.

She said she would leave knowing that bp has a strong foundation with Meg O’Neill and Ian Tyler in place.

Ian Tyler’s board and executive experience

Tyler currently serves as Chair of Grafton Group plc and Senior Independent Director of Anglo American plc.

His previous chair appointments include Cairn Energy plc from 2014 to 2020, Vistry Group plc from 2013 to 2022, Affinity Water Limited from 2021 to 2025, The Atomic Weapons Establishment from 2016 to 2021, and Al Noor Hospitals Group from 2013 to 2016.

He also served as a Non-Executive Director of BAE Systems plc from 2013 to 2022, including as Chair of its Corporate Responsibility Committee.

Before developing his board career, Tyler spent 17 years at Balfour Beatty plc, serving as Chief Executive Officer from 2005 to 2013.

Given the significance of his new role at bp, Tyler will review his existing board commitments to ensure he can devote the necessary time and attention to the company.
