Borealis Appoints Key Commercial Leaders to Drive Innovation and Sustainability in Polyolefins and Circular Economy Solutions

(IN BRIEF) Borealis has announced the appointment of four senior leaders in its commercial division, all reporting directly to EVP Craig Arnold. The new executives are Thomas Reutter as Senior Vice President of Polyolefins, Christopher McArdle as Vice President of Polyolefins Marketing & New Business Development, Dirk Langhammer as Vice President of Circular Economy Solutions, and Shanila Baseley as Vice President of Polyolefins Sales & Customer Experience and Business Intelligence. These appointments aim to support Borealis’ corporate strategy of providing innovative, sustainable solutions to customers. The new leaders bring a wealth of experience from roles at Borealis, Dow Chemical, DuPont, OMV, and Innovia, and are poised to drive the company’s transformation and success in the years ahead.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 4-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Borealis is delighted to announce the appointment of four key leaders in its commercial division to strategic leadership roles, all reporting directly to Craig Arnold, Executive Vice President (EVP) for Polyolefins, Circular Economy Solutions, and Base Chemicals. The new appointments are:

  • Thomas Reutter, Senior Vice President of the Polyolefins Business (SVP PO); 
  • Christopher McArdle, Vice President of Polyolefins Marketing & New Business Development (VP); 
  • Dirk Langhammer, Vice President of Circular Economy Solutions (CES); and 
  • Shanila Baseley, Vice President of Polyolefins Sales & Customer Experience and Business Intelligence (CXBI).

About the New Appointments:

  • Thomas Reutter (47) takes on the role of Senior Vice President of Polyolefins, with full Profit and Loss responsibility for the business unit. Thomas joined Borealis in 2021 to establish a Product Asset and Supply Chain strategy. Previously, he was the Commercial Vice President of Borealis’ Wire & Cable business. Before Borealis, Thomas worked at Dow Chemical in various business and supply chain roles across the Netherlands, Mexico, and Switzerland. He holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Martin-Luther University Halle, Germany, specializing in Controlling and Supply Chain Management. 
  • Christopher McArdle (50) is appointed Vice President of Polyolefins Marketing & New Business Development. Since joining Borealis in 2020, Christopher led the Polyolefins Strategy and New Business Development portfolio. He previously held senior commercial roles at Dow Chemical and DuPont, where he served as the EMEA Business Director for specialty ethylene copolymers. He holds a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Organometallic Chemistry from the University of Bristol, UK. 
  • Dirk Langhammer (46) is appointed Vice President of Circular Economy Solutions. Dirk joined Borealis in 2022 from OMV, where he was involved in strategy development and M&A activities. His experience at OMV also includes roles in business transformation with a focus on hydrogen, e-fuels, and advanced biofuels. Dirk holds a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Augsburg, as well as a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from the Technical University of Braunschweig, both in Germany. 

Shanila Baseley joins Borealis as Vice President of Polyolefins Sales & Customer Experience and Business Intelligence. Since her arrival in 2022, Shanila has been instrumental in driving the company’s transition to a circular economy and expanding its specialties business. Shanila previously held leadership positions at DuPont and Innovia, focusing on global business management, product management, sales, marketing, and R&D in the UK and Switzerland. She holds a Master’s degree in Instrumentation and Analytical Science from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Glasgow Caledonian University, both in the UK.
