Teddington, UK, 8-8-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — BMT WBM (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, is delighted to announce that it has won the bid to provide a Comprehensive Hydraulic Assessment as part of the Brisbane River Catchment Flood Study (BRCFS) for the Queensland Government. Given the significant logistical challenges and technical complexities, BMT has tailored a bespoke and innovative, industry leading approach underpinned by international best practice.
The project forms part of a broader framework of the Brisbane River Catchment Floodplain Studies currently being undertaken by the Queensland Government in response to the Queensland Flood Commission of Inquiry to provide a comprehensive plan to manage the Brisbane flood risk. The suite of studies follows the traditional and effective flood risk management framework endorsed as current best practice in Australia.
Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, the Honourable Andrew Cripps, said that the BMT WBM assessment team was selected for their technical expertise, local knowledge and extensive experience in delivering complex flood studies.
The study involves the delivery of a fully calibrated, contemporary, best practice hydraulic model of the lower Brisbane River, including tributaries downstream of the Wivenhoe Dam that accurately define flood behaviour. The outputs of the study are critical as they will inform the development of a strategic plan to manage flood risks across the catchment. These outputs include accurate flood behaviour information and a suite of tools that enable the effective assessment of possible management options when formulating strategic floodplain management plans.
Tony McAlister, Managing Director at BMT WBM explains: “Based on our understanding of the study specifications and context, together with our familiarity with hydraulic model software and the Brisbane River hydraulic behaviour, we believe we are very well placed to deliver a robust and practical hydraulic model.
Our technical excellence and accuracy underpins everything we do. We have proven expertise in Brisbane River hydraulics, modelling and software and have both the resource and track record for delivering projects, to the highest standards, on time and on budget.
