(PRESS RELEASE) MANNHEIM/STEYR, 6-Aug-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Bilfinger has been awarded a contract by Ennskraftwerke AG to overhaul the two generator units at the Garsten–St. Ulrich hydropower plant in Upper Austria.

The project will support the long-term efficiency, reliability and availability of the plant, which plays an important role in sustainable electricity generation in the region.

Under the contract, Bilfinger will be responsible for the prefabrication, refurbishment and installation of rotating and static equipment.

The work is scheduled to be completed by March 2028.

The scope includes the replacement of the two stators, all rotor poles and the fans.

These components will be manufactured by Bilfinger before the start of the overhaul works.

Bilfinger will also inspect and refurbish the remaining generator components before they are returned to service.

The company’s responsibilities cover the full overhaul process, from prefabrication and generator disassembly to refurbishment, installation and commissioning.

Ennskraftwerke AG is a long-established Austrian energy company operating 12 hydroelectric power plants on the Enns River and two on the Steyr River.

The Garsten–St. Ulrich power plant, located in the municipalities of St. Ulrich and Garsten, generates an average of 157 gigawatt-hours of sustainable electricity each year.

This output covers the annual electricity needs of approximately 40,000 households in the region.

The new contract continues a long-standing collaboration between Bilfinger and Ennskraftwerke AG across several hydropower plants.

Michaela Steinparz, Spokesperson for Ennskraftwerke AG, said Bilfinger has proven to be a reliable partner that meets high quality standards and demanding schedules.

She said Ennskraftwerke is pleased to again work with an experienced team that will help the company further strengthen its role as a key regional energy supplier.

Thierry Burki, Segment President Central Europe at Bilfinger, said the expanded collaboration with Ennskraftwerke reflects the expertise of Bilfinger’s teams.

He said the contract demonstrates Bilfinger’s experience in rotating equipment, particularly for critical infrastructure.

Burki added that Bilfinger is pleased to contribute to sustainable energy supply in Austria together with its customer.

Hydroelectric generators are among the longest-lasting components in power generation and are typically designed for service lives of 50 to 100 years.

Bilfinger said its services help ensure that this asset life is achieved while maintaining high levels of reliability and efficiency.

Through the overhaul of the Garsten–St. Ulrich generators, Bilfinger is supporting the continued performance of Austrian hydropower infrastructure and helping Ennskraftwerke AG maintain dependable renewable electricity generation for the region.
