BBVA Exceeds Gender Diversity Target with 35.4% Female Representation in Management

(IN BRIEF) BBVA has exceeded its 2024 goal of 35% female representation in managerial roles, achieving 35.4%. This accomplishment is the result of targeted initiatives like the ‘Yo soy talento femenino’ program, which has supported the promotion of 266 women into leadership positions. BBVA’s dedication to gender diversity has earned recognition from external bodies, further solidifying its position as a leader in workplace inclusion.

(PRESS RELEASE) BILBAO, 17-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — BBVA has surpassed its goal of having 35% women in managerial positions by 2024, reaching an impressive 35.4% at the close of the year. This achievement is a direct result of the bank’s ongoing commitment to gender equality and the implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at fostering female talent within the organization.

The milestone comes as part of a comprehensive approach introduced in 2022, when BBVA set the target to increase the percentage of women in leadership roles. Through targeted programs and policies, the bank has exceeded its goal, with 266 women promoted to managerial positions globally in the past year alone.

Among the key initiatives driving this success is the global program ‘Yo soy talento femenino’ (‘I am female talent’), designed to identify and support women with the highest growth potential at BBVA. Through mentorship, specialized training, coaching, and networking opportunities, the program has played a vital role in advancing women into leadership roles. In Spain, 19% of women participating in this program have been promoted to managerial positions. Additionally, the initiative received recognition from the United Nations Development Programme for its impact, being cited as a successful model in their ‘Gender Finance: Financial Centers for Sustainability Network 2023’ report.

BBVA’s commitment to diversity is also reflected in its revised executive remuneration policy, which now includes a diversity indicator as part of its variable incentives, further embedding gender equality into the organization’s performance metrics.

Paul Tobin, Global Head of Talent and Culture at BBVA, commented, “Building diverse teams is essential to success, and we have made great strides toward gender equality thanks to the dedication and commitment of our entire organization. Surpassing our target is a testament to the hard work of our teams and our collective focus on diversity and inclusion.”

BBVA’s dedication to diversity has been recognized externally as well. The bank was named one of the leading companies for diversity in Europe by Financial Times and Statista, ranking 13th in the entire banking sector and the top Spanish bank in the “Europe’s Diversity Leaders 2025” report. Additionally, Equileap, a company specializing in gender equality metrics, recognized BBVA as the only Spanish bank on its list of the 100 best companies for gender equality.

BBVA’s gender diversity efforts extend to its Board of Directors, where women make up 47% of the 15-member team. Furthermore, 23.8% of the members of the bank’s management committee were women in 2024, with five women serving among the 21 members.

Looking ahead, BBVA has set a new target of 36.8% female representation in managerial roles by 2026, continuing its commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace.
