Bankia delivered 18 housing units from the Social Fund to disadvantaged families in the provinces of Valencia

  • The homes are located in the provinces of Valencia, Castellón and Alicante
  • The bank continues working to deliver solutions to population groups at risk of social exclusion

12-8-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Bankia has delivered 18 housing units from the Social Fund to disadvantaged families and families at risk of social exclusion. The keys were handed over this morning in the offices of the Department of Infrastructure of the government of the region of Valencia (Generalitat Valenciana).

By province, of the 18 properties, seven are located in Valencia (Alboraira, Alfafar, Betera, Oliva, Paterna, Sagunto and Torrent), six in Castellón (Burriana, Castellón and Vall Dúxio) and five in Alicante.

The handover of the homes act is fruit of the cooperation agreement signed last December by Bankia and the Generalitat Valenciana in which the Bank assigned 400 housing units it owns throughout the region to the Generalitat’s rental program aimed at meeting the needs of families that have lost their home.

In May of this year, Bankia took one more step in its commitment to deliver solutions to the homeless and to families in socially precarious situations by agreeing to assign 200,000 euros to promote home rentals in the Valencian Community, as an addition to the aforesaid agreement between the Bank and the Valencia Housing Institute.

Bankia will pay up to 50% of the rent for the first five years of the contract, and three if the law on leases is changed. The monthly rent for the homes provided by the Bank is capped at 200 euros. Bankia’s contribution rises to half of the tenant’s income during the first and second years of the rental, and 40% in the third; this percentage is 30% for the fourth year and 20% in the last.

To be eligible for these social leases families must have lost their regular home as a result of a mortgage foreclosure or be subject to similar court proceedings. The homes will also be available to families at risk of social exclusion, unemployed persons with family responsibilities or persons with limited revenues. Eligibility will also be considered for the elderly, victims of gender violence and people with disabilities.

The Bank has committed to adapting the dwellings to meet the inhabitability criteria before the tenants occupy the homes.

At the handover ceremony, Javier Sánchez Mean, Commercial Director of Assets for Bankia Habitat, sought to thank the Social Services Offices of the municipal governments involved, “whose work is essential for managing the program”, and the Valencian Government, “which through its Department of Infrastructure, the Housing Institute and the ‘Red Alquila’ rental network, have helped materialise the dream of the 18 families to whom these homes have been provided. Taken together with the units currently being adapted, we will abe able to reach a sizeable number of homes”.
