BAE Systems donates to the Heugh Battery Museum in Hartlepool
FARNBOROUGH, 31-May-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — BAE Systems‘ Land UK business in Washington, Tyne and Wear has made donation to the Heugh Battery Museum in Hartlepool. The museum is UK’s only World War One battlefield site. The donated £1,000 will go for the protection of the only World War One battlefield site in the UK.
Furthermore, a team of apprentices from the company’s manufacturing site in Washington will also support the museum in its preparation for the Armed Forces Day, which will be on 29 June 2019 by renovating and maintaining some of the exhibits.
Products developed by BAE Systems’ heritage companies which have been used throughout history are on display in the Heugh Battery Museum. Among others are also the 4.5” naval and anti-aircraft gun, the Saracen Armoured Personnel Carrier, Vickers machine guns and the Chieftain Main Battle Tank.
The cheque handover ceremony for the donation, held at the museum in Hartlepool on 30 May 2019, was attended by Joshua Grant, Operations Apprentice at BAE Systems, Les Cooper, Washington Site Manager and Diane Stephens, Heugh Battery Museum Manager.
Commenting on the donation, Les Cooper, Washington Site Manager, said:

This is a particularly relevant and special partnership to us given our history with the products on show, and we’re proud that our talented and capable apprentices will be supporting the museum during Armed Forces Week so future generations can appreciate the exhibits.”

“The Heugh Battery Museum preserves the only First World War battlefield in the UK and commemorates the bombardment of Hartlepool in December 1914.
