Aviva to Gain Full Strategic Control of Aviva Life Insurance Company India Limited

(IN BRIEF) Aviva has agreed to buy the remaining 26% stake in Aviva Life Insurance Company India Limited from Dabur Invest Corp, its local joint venture partner. The acquisition will take Aviva’s ownership of Aviva India to 100% and give the company full control over the business’s strategic direction. The joint venture was originally formed in 2001. The transaction follows changes to India’s foreign direct investment rules, which now allow foreign insurers to hold full ownership of local insurance companies. Aviva had already increased its stake in the business in 2016 and 2022 after previous regulatory changes. Once the transaction is completed, the current joint venture agreement will end. Aviva said the financial impact is not material.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 9-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Aviva has signed an agreement to acquire the remaining 26% shareholding in Aviva Life Insurance Company India Limited from Dabur Invest Corp, its local joint venture partner.

The transaction will increase Aviva’s ownership of Aviva India to 100%, giving the group full control over the strategic direction and future development of the business.

Aviva India was established in 2001 as a life insurance joint venture between Aviva and Dabur Invest Corp. The agreement to acquire the remaining stake follows recent changes to India’s foreign direct investment rules, which now allow foreign insurers to own up to 100% of local insurance companies.

Aviva had previously increased its shareholding in Aviva India in 2016 and again in 2022, following earlier changes to foreign direct investment regulations.

Once the latest transaction is completed, the existing joint venture agreement between Aviva and Dabur Invest Corp will be terminated. Completion is expected to take place in due course.

Aviva said the financial impact of the transaction is not material to the group.
