Atos cloud Canopy launches cloud platform supporting digital businesses

Empowering organisations to accelerate their move to digital business while enabling IT to become a Cloud Service Broker

Las Vegas, 9-5-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Canopy, the Atos cloud, powered by EMC² and VMware, announced at EMC World today its strategy and supporting products to empower digital businesses in the cloud. It launches a cloud platform on which to develop, deploy and manage existing and next generation data-centric applications on a choice of cloud infrastructures.

Organisations around the world are in a race to reinvent themselves as a digital business which can successfully harness the power of big data/analytics, mobile and social applications to deliver superior customer experiences in the cloud. In fact, industry analyst firm Gartner reports that “all industries in all geographies are undergoing radical digital disruption — a “digital dragon” that is potentially very powerful if tamed but a destructive force if not”1).

To help organisations get ahead in the digital race, Canopy today announces its cloud platform for digital business that will allow them to:

  • Accelerate their move to digital by cloud-enabling existing applications instead of having to re-engineer them
  • Accelerate time to market for development of new cloud-native applications with advanced enterprise Platform as a Service
  • Drive competitive advantage by accelerating the speed with which big data can be analysed and applications updated with new insights and functionality to deliver new business innovation
  • Empower their IT to regain control over cloud sprawl and avoid lock-in with the flexibility to run any application on any cloud

Enabling IT to become a cloud broker with Canopy Compose
The first instalment of the Canopy cloud platform for digital business is a new version of Canopy Compose which enables IT to:

  • Minimise the time, risk and cost to become a digital business by creating cloud services from existing applications and publishing them to a self-service portal for automated deployment.
  • Act as a cloud service broker: flexibly deploy and manage their cloud services to a number of Canopy or partner clouds, including VMware vCloud® Hybrid Service™, while keeping a single point of management and billing through Canopy.

Darren Ratcliffe, SVP PaaS, Canopy said: “Competitive advantage in the digital era will be determined by the speed with which you can analyse big data and deliver business innovation through cloud applications. We’re very excited about the value our cloud platform for digital business will deliver to empower our customers to become digital leaders in their respective markets.”

Michelle De Hertogh, Senior Director Global Strategic Partner Marketing, at EMC Corporation: “As part of Canopy’s broader cloud platform for digital business, we see the ability of EMC powered Canopy Compose to enable IT to become a cloud service broker as a critical step toward delivering IT as a Service (ITaaS).”

Dave O’Callaghan, senior vice president, Global Partner Organization, VMware: “Built on VMware infrastructure, Canopy Compose is a important solution for software-defined enterprises. Organizations can deploy Canopy Infrastructure clouds powered by VMware, and also use VMware vCloud® Hybrid Service™ and vCloud Powered Services. This empowers enterprises with choice and flexibility for the different needs and requirements of their businesses.”
