Astaldi’s Canadian subsidiary lands CAD 1 billion contract for construction of major civil works for the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project

THE CONTRACT ALSO FORESEES AN OPTION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE DAM 

Rome, Italy, 11-12-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — Astaldi, through its subsidiary Astaldi Canada, has signed the CAD 1 billion contract for the construction of major civil works for the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric generating facility project, in Canada. The signing of the contract follows and completes the process which saw Astaldi selected as the contractor by Nalcor Energy last October 10th. Astaldi is going to start works before year end for approximately four years.

The 824 MW Muskrat Falls development, which also includes a 750 meters long dam over the Churchill River, along with the Gull Island project, is part of a larger plan to develop the lower Churchill River. With a combined capacity of over 3,000 MW, these projects represent the best undeveloped hydroelectric resource in North America.

The civil works package is the largest associated with the development and the scope of work includes construction of the power house, intake and gated spillway. The contract also includes an option for the construction of the dam for a value which is still under negotiations.
