PARIS, 31-3-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — On the occasion of the visit to France of Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, AREVA participated in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This visit included notably the signature of agreements for the continuation of the Franco-Chinese strategic partnership in civil nuclear energy, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.

  • In the presence of Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China and Mr. François Hollande, President of the French Republic, Mr. Luc Oursel, President and CEO of AREVA, signed with Mr. Sun Qin, Chairman of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), an agreement related to the pursuit of the used fuel treatment and recycling facility project, the subject of a letter of intention signed in April 2013.

The industrial negotiations for this project are advancing. The technical discussions to define the distribution of tasks and responsibilities are being finalized in line with the initial schedule. The negotiations will be entering the commercial phase.

Furthermore, both companies plan to expand their cooperation in the fields of operational support and maintenance of the future facility as well as the used fuel logistical chain which is expecting strong growth in China over the coming years.

  • As part of this presidential visit, AREVA and CNNC also sign two additional cooperation agreements:- an agreement to develop the strategic partnership between both companies by identifying all opportunities for cooperation in all civil nuclear fields, in the fuel cycle as well as reactors and services.

    – an agreement for the creation of a joint venture in the field of digital safety instrumentation and control (I&C) systems.

The joint venture, managed together by AREVA (49% share) and CNNC (51% share), will prioritize supplying the TELEPERM®XS I&C platform to the Chinese market.

This alliance will contribute to reinforcing the safety of Chinese nuclear power plants. It will also enable AREVA to increase its industrial presence in this growing market in China.

Meeting the strictest safety standards, the TELEPERM®XS platform is licensed in 16 countries. This system has been supplied or is currently being installed in around 80 nuclear reactors with 14 different designs.
