ANDRITZ wins major contract from Adani Green Energy to equip 1,800 MW Gandikota pumped storage plant in India

Contract signing of Gandikota pumped storage project

(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ has been awarded a major contract by Adani Green Energy Limited to supply turbines, motor-generators, and associated systems for the 1,800 MW Gandikota pumped storage plant in Andhra Pradesh. The project, valued in the low three-digit million-euro range, is the third collaboration between the two companies after Chitravathi and Tarali. Scheduled to be executed with support from ANDRITZ’s Indian manufacturing facilities, the contract underscores the company’s strong presence in India’s hydropower market. As India expands pumped storage to stabilize its renewable-heavy grid, Gandikota will play a crucial role in enabling the large-scale integration of solar and wind energy while strengthening energy security.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 4-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — International technology group ANDRITZ has secured an order from Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company and a major global player, to supply key equipment for the new Gandikota pumped storage plant in the YSR Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The 1,800 MW facility will significantly strengthen the country’s ability to integrate renewable energy from solar and wind into its national grid.

Under the contract, ANDRITZ will deliver reversible pump turbines, motor-generators, and a full range of electromechanical systems, including design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning. The project will be carried out using ANDRITZ’s advanced manufacturing facilities in India, supported by its global technology network.

India is rapidly expanding its pumped storage capacity to ensure grid stability as it accelerates the adoption of renewable energy. The Gandikota project is one of the country’s largest initiatives in this area and marks the third collaboration between AGEL and ANDRITZ, following the 500 MW Chitravathi project in 2023 and the 1,500 MW Tarali project in 2025. The order, valued in the low three-digit million-euro range, is included in ANDRITZ’s Q2 2025 order intake.

The repeat order highlights both AGEL’s trust in ANDRITZ and the company’s established position in India’s hydropower sector. With Gandikota, ANDRITZ further expands its portfolio of pumped storage projects in India, where it is currently engaged in the development of five new plants. These facilities are key to supporting the country’s long-term renewable energy goals and ensuring a stable, resilient power supply.
