ANDRITZ and Cell Impact Join Forces to Supercharge High-Speed Bipolar Flow Plate Production

(IN BRIEF) Cell Impact has partnered with international technology group ANDRITZ to enhance large-scale production of bipolar flow plates for fuel cells and electrolyzers. The collaboration focuses on integrating ANDRITZ’s new Soucell welding system, capable of welding one bipolar plate per second, with Cell Impact’s high-speed forming technology. The joint project is set to begin in 2025, with the Soucell machine expected to be installed at Cell Impact’s Karlskoga plant by late 2026, meeting the growing demand for these key components.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 15-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Cell Impact, a Swedish leader in bipolar flow plate manufacturing, has entered into a strategic collaboration with international technology group ANDRITZ to accelerate high-volume production of these critical components for fuel cells and electrolyzers. The partnership will leverage ANDRITZ’s cutting-edge welding technology, specifically its Soucell system, to enhance production speed and efficiency.

The collaboration centers on the development of ANDRITZ’s Soucell, the world’s fastest welding machine for this application, which will work in tandem with Cell Impact’s proprietary high-speed forming technology. Capable of welding one bipolar plate per second, the Soucell system will align perfectly with Cell Impact’s high-throughput forming process, marking a significant step forward in manufacturing capabilities.

The project is set to commence in early 2025, with plans to install the Soucell machine at Cell Impact’s Karlskoga facility by the latter half of 2026. With the demand for bipolar flow plates rising, this partnership is expected to expand further as production scales up.

“We’ve been seeking the right welding solution to complement our unique forming technology as we gear up for high-volume production. ANDRITZ brings the expertise and innovative approach we need to achieve our ambitious goals,” said Daniel Vallin, CEO of Cell Impact.

Daniel Wenk, Vice President of Business Development at ANDRITZ Soutec, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “This partnership with Cell Impact is a tremendous opportunity to drive forward the transition to sustainable energy. Together, we are setting the stage for unprecedented production capabilities in bipolar flow plates.”
