Alstom: Tenants’ and residents’ association Positive Partington Partnership visited Carrington Power Station to know more about how the power station on their doorstep develops

Carrington, England, 21-10-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Eight members of community group Positive Partington visited Carrington Power Station to get a better idea about how the power station on their doorstep was developing.

The guests were given an overview of what was happening on site by Alstom site manager Rainer Lueoend.  The presentation included details of the construction of the major component parts, and how site safety and welfare of the staff was paramount during the build.

Positive Partington Partnership (PPP) is a local tenants’ and residents’ association. The group’s aims are to represent all who live in Partington and Carrington, to work on behalf of the whole community to improve local amenities and environment and inform on matters which could affect the local community.

Paul Grainge, Chair of PPP, said: “We have watched, with interest, the development of Carrington Power Station for many months.  Although there is very little to see from the roadside, we have been kept abreast of developments and potential impacts, particularly on local roads.  It was fascinating to see the size of the power station and how much had changed since we visited the site when the gas turbines were being delivered.”

Several of the members took the opportunity of viewing the site from the steel staircases adjacent to the chimney stacks and all agreed the views were worth the effort.

“We’re keen to work with the local community and to keep them up to date on what is happening on site,” said Rainer.

“PPP regularly attend our local liaison group meetings where we provide images and information about the construction process.”

Alstom
In the UK, Alstom has built, and now maintains, over half the country’s gas-fired power plants, including a 1,650MW plant in Nottinghamshire, a 2,160MW plant in Pembrokeshire, a 900MW plant in Devon and a 1,275MW plant in Kent.

At Carrington, Alstom is responsible for supplying, commissioning and maintaining the power generating equipment, including two gas turbines, two steam turbines and two heat recovery steam generators.

At Carrington, DF will be responsible for all the civil works, electrical and mechanical works and the construction and balance of the plant equipment.

The new power station is being developed by Carrington Power Limited, which is owned by ESB.
