Alstom and Norske tog Launch First Coradia Stream Nordic Train for June 2026 Oslo Service

(IN BRIEF) Alstom and Norske tog have presented the first of 55 Coradia Stream train sets at Oslo’s Grorud depot, kicking off a months-long testing regimen across Europe and in Norway’s winter mountains. This launch, attended by top transport officials, is part of a framework deal signed in 2021 for up to 200 trains, including 45 ordered to replace ageing rolling stock in Eastern Norway. The six-car Coradia Stream units are tailored for Nordic conditions, offering speeds up to 200 km/h, onboard Wi-Fi, low-floor access, and strong emphasis on accessibility. Service in the Greater Oslo Region is slated to begin in June 2026.

(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 11-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom and Norske tog have revealed the inaugural Coradia Stream train set destined for service in the Greater Oslo Region starting June 2026. Unveiled at Bane NOR’s Grorud depot in Oslo—with Norway’s Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård and French Ambassador Florence Robine in attendance—the train will embark on a comprehensive testing programme across Norway before entering passenger service.

This first Coradia Stream unit is part of a larger 55-set order designed to enhance commuter journeys with greater speed and comfort. Following rigorous trials in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, the train will undergo extreme-condition assessments this winter in Norway’s mountainous terrain to ensure its reliability in harsh climates.

“Coradia Stream for the Nordics embodies our dedication to cutting-edge, sustainable mobility solutions,” said Jörg Nikutta, Managing Director of Alstom for Denmark, Norway, and Iceland. “We’re delighted to deliver these advanced trains that will serve Norwegian passengers for decades.”

Øystein Risan, CEO of Norske tog, emphasized the passenger benefits: “These new trains mark a significant step forward in modernising regional service around Oslo, delivering increased seating capacity and superior onboard comfort.”

Originally agreed in late 2021, the framework arrangement lets Norske tog acquire up to 200 new trains; it has so far ordered 45 Coradia units for both commuter and regional networks, marking Norway’s largest-ever rolling-stock procurement. The Coradia Stream for the Nordics features six-car formations, onboard internet access, low-floor entry for seamless boarding, and a modular interior configurable to operational needs.

Designed for speeds up to 160 km/h on commuter routes—and 200 km/h on intercity lines—the trains boast a 40-year service life. Accessibility has been prioritised, with dedicated wheelchair spaces, universally designed restrooms, and spacious flexible zones for bicycles or strollers.
