(IN BRIEF) Alstom has signed a letter of intent with DB Cargo Polska to develop a state-of-the-art locomotive maintenance centre in Rybnik, expanding its service capacity in Poland alongside its existing Toruń facility. The project supports the rising demand for professional maintenance services driven by the growth of intermodal transport and the increasing number of Traxx locomotives operating in Poland. Signed during the TRAKO trade fair, the partnership reflects Poland’s strategic importance in European rail. Alstom, which has delivered over 6,000 locomotives globally and services more than 2,450, including 600 Traxx units, continues to strengthen its position as a leader in locomotive services. The Rybnik facility will benefit from DB Cargo Polska’s modern infrastructure and expertise while reinforcing Alstom’s role in delivering reliable, sustainable rail mobility across Europe.

(PRESS RELEASE) SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, 26-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Alstom, the world’s leading supplier of smart and sustainable mobility solutions, has signed a letter of intent with DB Cargo Polska to establish a modern locomotive maintenance facility in Rybnik. The service centre will be equipped with advanced locomotive service bays and will operate as a complementary unit to Alstom’s existing Traxx maintenance site in Toruń. Together, these centres will significantly expand Alstom’s ability to provide reliable and comprehensive maintenance services for the growing fleet of locomotives operating in Poland and across the Eastern European corridor.

The new facility responds to the strong growth of the intermodal transport market in Poland, which is driving increased demand among rail operators for high-quality maintenance solutions that maximise fleet availability and efficiency. Over the past two years, Alstom has signed agreements in Poland for the delivery of 61 third-generation Traxx Universal locomotives, reinforcing the need for expanded service capacity in the region.

Beata Rusinowicz, Managing Director of Alstom in Poland, emphasised: “Our commitment is to provide operators with the technical support they need as they invest in modern, energy-efficient rolling stock. This initiative is another step in helping our customers achieve their strategic goals while supporting the development of a sustainable, low-emission transport network across Europe.”

The letter of intent was signed during the TRAKO trade fair, underscoring Poland’s growing role in European rail transport. Marek Staszek, President of DB Cargo Polska, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “This agreement reflects the strategic importance of Poland on Europe’s railway map. Our facility in Rybnik is one of the most advanced in the region, offering ideal conditions for maintaining Traxx locomotives and strengthening our position as a hub for rail services.”

Globally, Alstom has delivered over 6,000 locomotives since 2000 and currently services more than 2,450, including over 600 Traxx multi-system locomotives operating across 20 European countries. These locomotives, built on a modular platform for both passenger and freight transport, cover more than 300 million kilometres annually. Recent orders in Central and Eastern Europe include 40 locomotives for OnTrain, 18 for CLIP Intermodal, and three for Captrain Polska, demonstrating the strong market preference for the Traxx Universal platform.

Production of Traxx locomotives takes place in Kassel, Germany, while key components such as carbodies are manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Wrocław, underlining Poland’s strategic role in Alstom’s global supply chain.

With the planned Rybnik service centre, Alstom further consolidates its leadership in rail maintenance services. Through its FlexCare Perform™ portfolio, the company supports customers worldwide across the entire asset lifecycle, maintaining more than 35,500 vehicles. Alstom remains a trusted partner not only for its own rolling stock but also for non-Alstom vehicles, offering tailored solutions that adapt to operator needs.

Alstom, as Poland’s largest rolling stock manufacturer, employs over 4,700 people and continues to drive the country’s importance in European and global rail transport. DB Cargo Polska complements this expertise by providing transport services, rolling stock repair, and locomotive maintenance, making the partnership a powerful step forward in ensuring reliable, sustainable mobility solutions in Poland and beyond.
