ALECTIA part of consortium won the competition to build the new Køge University Hospital in Denmark

A consortium with C.F. Møller, ALECTIA and Rambøll have won the competition to build the new Køge University Hospital with a budget of EUR 540,000.

15-7-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — “The consortium have designed a very attractive university hospital that will be a striking landmark on the health map of the entire Zealand Region. The architecture and structure of the project show that it will be robust during planning and construction as well as in the future”, says Steen Bach Nielsen on the website of Region Zealand.

Køge University Hospital is an expansion of the existing Køge Hospital, which will be increased threefold to a total area of 177,000 m2. The project is visionary in terms of both architecture and functionality. The flexibility is high in relation to the management of the hospital functionality with good opportunities to support Region Zealand’s vision of holistic patient care.

“The proposal implies that the two oldest inpatient buildings will be demolished in order to retain the present main hall as the new hospital’s main thoroughfare. In that way short distances and optimal utilisation of square metres are obtained, which together with innovative logistics solutions will frame an efficient hospital management”, explains Lars Onsberg Henriksen, CEO in Region Zealand.

“The design is based on the existing hospital qualities and potentials and constitutes an overall sustainable architectural, functional and technical vision of a compact, clear, green and inviting hospital complex”, says Klaus Hyttel, architect and partner in C.F. Møller.

The building activities of DKK 4 billion will start in 2015 and is scheduled for completion in 2020. Køge University Hospital will be completely ready for use in 2021. Køge Hospital will be in full operation during the entire building period.

Experienced consortium
ALECTIA’s consortium – entitled “Rådgivergruppen USK” is engaged as the full-service consultant for the design of the university hospital. The consortium consists of C.F. Møller Danmark A/S, ALECTIA A/S and Rambøll Danmark A/S with CUBO architects, Gehl Architects and Søren Jensen Rådgivende Ingeniørfirma as sub-consultants.

The winning consultant team is a strong cross-disciplinary team with experience from the role as full-service consultant for the New University Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark, which is currently being constructed in Skejby, north of Aarhus. Likewise, the existing Køge Hospital was built by C.F. Møller, Rambøll and ALECTIA in 1983-1988.
