Ahlstrom-Munksjö confirms its support to coated and bonded abrasives manufacturers by joining the Sustainable European Abrasive Manufacturers initiative

(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 23-Jan-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — Ahlstrom-Munksjö has just announced it is joining the newly launched initiative called SEAM (from Sustainable European Abrasive Manufacturers) aimed at improving the sustainability of the abrasive industry. SEAM was announced on January 21, 2020, with a press release on EuropaWire, by the the Federation of European Producers of Abrasives (FEPA) representing effectively more than 80% of the abrasive product manufacturers in Europe.

Achieving sustainable growth and improvements in sustainability, primarily in production and distribution of abrasive products is the main objective of SEAM initiative. The program aims at engaging all stakeholders in the supply chain and make them contribute to the European sustainability system.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö plants across Europe have gone through rigorous check to ensure they meet a set of minimum requirements in the area of environment, labor and economy in order to be admitted into the SEAM program.

Nikita Mulard, Vice President of Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s Abrasive business on joining SEAM:

“By joining the SEAM program, we are confirming our support to coated and bonded abrasives manufacturers that wish to commit to a more sustainable future.”

Aside given the chance to use the SEAM label, Ahlstrom-Munksjö will also adopt or refine existing targets within the three themes such as energy management, employee safety and business continuity. The company will also commit to work on improving performance, reporting annually on progress.

Making the abrasive products value chain more sustainable is not starting today for Ahlstrom-Munksjö. For instance, all Ahlstrom-Munksjö produced abrasive backings are formaldehyde-free since 2015 and a range of innovative fiber-based products have as well been launched to provide more sustainable alternatives to traditional abrasive backings.
