AF Offshore Decom and Heerema to Deliver Multi-Year North Sea Removal and Recycling Project

Previous project with Heerema involving module deliveries to AF Environmental Base Vats.

(IN BRIEF) AF Gruppen, through AF Offshore Decom and in consortium with Heerema Marine Contractors, has been awarded a new EPRD contract for a North Sea platform on the UK Continental Shelf. The project covers engineering, preparation, removal and disposal of topside facilities weighing around 38,500 tonnes. Platform surveys will start immediately, followed by detailed engineering and offshore preparatory work over the next six years. The topsides will be removed in a multi-year campaign using Heerema Marine Contractors’ vessels and transported to AF Environmental Base Vats for dismantling, recycling and disposal within the next eight years. The award marks the second contract secured by the AF Offshore Decom and Heerema consortium within a short timeframe.

(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 16-Jul-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — AF Gruppen, through its subsidiary AF Offshore Decom, has been awarded a new North Sea decommissioning contract in consortium with Heerema Marine Contractors.

The contract covers the engineering, preparation, removal and disposal of a platform located on the UK Continental Shelf. It is the second contract awarded to the AF Offshore Decom and Heerema Marine Contractors consortium within a short period.

The scope of work includes the removal of the platform’s topside facilities, which weigh approximately 38,500 tonnes.

Offshore platform surveys will begin immediately. These will be followed by detailed engineering and offshore preparatory activities, which are scheduled to take place over the next six years.

The topsides will then be removed during a multi-year offshore campaign using Heerema Marine Contractors’ vessels. After removal, the structures will be transported to AF Environmental Base Vats for onshore dismantling, recycling and disposal. This phase is expected to be carried out within the next eight years.
