Achmea Restructures Syntrus Achmea for Strategic Growth in Mortgages and Real Estate

(IN BRIEF) Achmea has announced a restructuring of its subsidiary, Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance B.V., to support its growth in the mortgage and real estate sectors. Effective October 1, 2024, the mortgage and real estate activities will be separated into distinct entities. Syntrus Achmea Hypotheekdiensten B.V. will handle mortgage origination and management under Achmea Bank, while Achmea Mortgage Funds B.V. will manage mortgage funds and investment portfolios. The real estate business will operate under the new name Achmea Real Estate. Each entity will have its own management board and structure, ensuring focused leadership for future growth.

(PRESS RELEASE) ZEIST, 28-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a strategic move to bolster its growth in the mortgage and real estate sectors, Achmea has announced a significant restructuring of Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance B.V. Effective from October 1, 2024, the company will separate its mortgage and real estate operations into distinct entities. This restructuring has received the necessary approvals from the Dutch regulators, DNB and AFM, as well as the works council.

The reorganization aims to streamline operations and create specialized entities to enhance focus and efficiency in these key business areas.

The restructuring will be carried out as follows:

  1. Mortgage Operations:
    • Syntrus Achmea Hypotheekdiensten B.V. will continue its core activities of originating and managing mortgages as a subsidiary of Achmea Bank N.V. Its subsidiaries, Achmea Hypotheken B.V. and Attens Hypotheken B.V., will also be integrated under Achmea Bank.
    • Achmea Mortgage Funds B.V. will assume the management of mortgage funds and investment portfolios, previously handled by Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance. This entity will also oversee the Achmea Mortgage Investment Platform.
  2. Real Estate Operations:
    • The real estate arm of the business will operate under the newly established legal name Achmea Real Estate. This division will focus on the asset management of real estate funds and separate accounts.

Each of the newly formed entities will have its own management board and organizational structure to ensure dedicated leadership and strategic direction:

  • Achmea Bank and Syntrus Achmea Hypotheekdiensten: Pierre Huurman (CEO) and Mark Geubbels (Director Finance & Risk).
  • Achmea Mortgage Funds: Hikmet Sevdican (Chair of the Statutory Board) and Johan Dijkstra (Director Finance).
  • Achmea Real Estate: Toon Sweens (Co-Chair, Director Operations), Boris van der Gijp (Co-Chair, Director Investments), and Mascha Hendrickx (Director Finance).

This restructuring represents a significant step forward for Achmea, positioning the company for continued growth and success in the competitive mortgage and real estate markets.
