LONDON, 18-Oct-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — ABP’s Port of Ayr team has donated funds which will be used to support the local branch of the Fishermen’s Mission in Troon (Formerly known as Royal National Mission for Deep Sea Fishermen – RNMDSF).

The donated sum of £800 was raised as part of an RNLI Open Day held in Troon in July this year, where ABP organised a raffle and bottle stall. Over the course of the day which saw more than a hundred people attend, ABP raised a total of £1,600 for charity and donated half to the RNLI.

The Fishermen’s Mission is the only national charity in the UK that works solely with people working in fishing and their families and offers them financial, pastoral and spiritual support as well as an emergency response service.

Paula Daly, the local superintendent at the Fishermen’s Mission in Troon, said: “The Fishermen’s Mission greatly appreciates the support from ABP’s Ports of Ayr and Troon. This is a terrific donation for us to use in Troon and the surrounding area. Many thanks to all who worked so hard to raise this.”

The Fishermen’s Mission states that today more than 13,000 people work in the fishing industry in the UK. The charity provides 24/7 advice and support to these active people working in fishing as well as around 50,000 retired fishermen and their families.

Stuart Cresswell, ABP Port Manager, Ayr and Troon, said: “The Fishermen’s Mission plays a very important role in supporting the local fishing community and we are very happy to make this small donation to help their efforts.”
