ABP Supports The Norfolk Hospice By Joining GEAR

ABP employees prepare to take part in the GEAR Corporate Challenge

LONDON, 01-May-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — A team of ABP employees is preparing to take on the sell-out ASDA Foundation Grand East Anglia Run (GEAR), one of Norfolk’s biggest charity runs this coming weekend. Their efforts will raise funds for The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House. The charity, which relies on the support of the local community, offers support, care and advice to patients with life-shortening illnesses.

Lindsey Atkin, Corporate and Community Fundraising Manager at The Norfolk Hospice said “We are extremely grateful that a well-known company such as ABP is supporting our charity. The money raised will make a vital contribution to our funding, helping us continue to provide free palliative care and support to patients, and their carers and families in the local community”

While ABP has taken part in the run since 2013, this year a group of six employees from the Ports of King’s Lynn and Ipswich, will be competing in the new GEAR Corporate Challenge. Being a new feature of the run and one of the highlights on the day, the challenge is sponsored by Bespak, a leading manufacturer of complex medical and pharmaceutical devices.

In previous years, ABP running teams have also raised funds for Rudham Ward, the Childrens Ward at the local Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

John Jarvis, ABP Operations Manager, said: “We are delighted to be one of the teams in the first Gear Corporate Challenge 10K. Contributing to the community is an important element of our core values, and it provides a great opportunity to run with work mates, get a bit fitter and, more importantly, raise money for some really good causes.”

Georgia Freeman, Laboratory and Silo Operative at the Port of King’s Lynn, who will be joining ABP’s team running team for the first time, said: “I am looking forward to being part of the buzz of the race while at the same time raising money for charity. The fact that so many of us care about and engage with the local community is one of the reasons that make ABP a great place to work.”

The GEAR 10K will be organised by the not-for-profit company Run For All, working in partnership with Alive Leisure and West Norfolk Council. Part of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE, who raised almost £2 million for charity despite her cancer diagnosis, Run For All organises a number of 10K runs across the UK.
