St Edmund’s Academy pupils invited for an educational port visit to Port of King’s Lynn in 2018

St Edmund’s Academy pupils visited the Port of King’s Lynn back in June 2017

LONDON, 22-Jan-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — To thank pupils from St Edmund’s Academy for their help in naming two of the bays of the new Hanse bulk terminal at the Port of King’s Lynn, ABP’s team invited them for an educational port visit in 2018.

Pupils returned to the port on the 11th January for an opportunity to see the completed large warehouse structure, following their initial visit in June 2017. The state-of-the-art Hanse bulk terminal was unveiled during an official ceremony in September 2017 and represents an investment of £2.2 million.

As part of their port tour, pupils explored port facilities and watched a crane operator in action. They also learned about the importance of wearing protective clothing during an interactive safety presentation with John Jarvis, Operations Manager and Carlton Mason, Operations Supervisor.

As the school had decided to name one of the terminal bays Savages Carousel, ABP invited Rebecca Rees from True’s Yard Museum to present a talk on the history of the inventor Frederick Savage, best known for his innovations with fairground rides and equipment.

Paul Brooks, ABP King’s Lynn Port Manager, said: “It was great to show the pupils of St Edmund’s the finished new terminal, which was still under construction during their previous visit.

“I would like to thank the children for their help in naming the new terminal and I hope they have learned a great deal about how ports operate safely, which may inspire them to one day pursue a career in the maritime sector.”
