OSCE Centre in Astana held seminar for NGOs in Kazakhstan to address human rights violations committed in the business

Vienna, Austria, 31-7-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Building the capacity of civil society to address human rights violations committed in the business sphere was the aim of an OSCE-supported training seminar that took place in Almaty on 31 July 2014.

Some 20 members of non-governmental organizations from across Kazakhstan attended the event, which was co-organized with the local think-tank, the Legal Policy Research Centre.

The seminar touched on the role of civil society in promoting labour-related and environmental-related human rights as well as the rights of vulnerable groups in Kazakhstan. Also presented were the ways that civil society can foster dialogue with governmental authorities to ensure policy and practice coherence in implementing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

The training is part of the Centre’s work aimed at building the capacity of civil society to engage in constructive discussions with government and private sector on human rights issues.
