Xiaomi unveils new color “Nightfall Rose”

Since 2023, BASF Coatings has supplied Xiaomi with full-layer coating systems, including e-coat, primer, basecoat, and clearcoat solutions. The first collection of new shades—Velocity Red, Dawn Pink (Matte), Nightfall Rose, Buttercup Yellow, and Amethyst Purple—demonstrates BASF’s advanced coating technologies such as ProGloss dual-layer clearcoat and waterborne basecoat systems. The initiative is designed to push the boundaries of innovation and personalization in automotive color design, introducing new visual expressions for the era of intelligent mobility.

Since becoming Xiaomi’s coatings partner, BASF Coatings has supplied full-layer coating solutions covering every stage of the process—from R&D to mass production—across Xiaomi’s vehicle lineup. The company provides coatings for the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7 models, including CathoGuard® 800 e-coat, SecuBloc primer, ColorBrite waterborne basecoat, and ProGloss clearcoat, ensuring both superior aesthetics and high-performance durability.

The first batch of newly co-developed colors features striking finishes such as Velocity Red, Dawn Pink (Matte), Nightfall Rose, Buttercup Yellow, and Amethyst Purple. Each color demonstrates a unique interplay of technology and artistry:

• Velocity Red uses a customized BASF red clearcoat that achieves 20% higher color saturation.
• Dawn Pink (Matte) employs a matte clearcoat to create a sculpted, fog-like surface texture.
• Nightfall Rose features a warm-to-cool contrast enhanced by aluminum and pearlescent pigments that produce an elegant color-shifting effect.
• Buttercup Yellow utilizes a triple pigment layering process to achieve its intense, high-saturation tone.
• Amethyst Purple, the centerpiece of the collection, showcases BASF’s advanced ProGloss 2K and ProGloss Plus 2K dual-layer clearcoat technology, producing a luminous, crystal-like mirror finish.
