(PRESS RELEASE) BEIJING, 10-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk), a global integrated logistics company, and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), a world leader in innovative energy technologies, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the decarbonisation of global supply chains and enhance CATL’s international logistics capabilities.

The signing ceremony, held on 9 October in Hong Kong, brought together senior representatives from both companies. The MoU was signed by Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Energy Transition at Maersk, and Akin Li, Executive President of Overseas Car Business at CATL. The event was witnessed by Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller – Maersk, and Libin Tan, Chief Customer Officer and Co-President of Sales & Marketing at CATL, along with other executives.

Strengthening Global Logistics and Supply Chain Resilience

The new agreement builds on a five-year collaboration between Maersk and CATL in areas including ocean and intermodal transport and logistics services. Under the partnership, Maersk will become CATL’s preferred global logistics provider, offering comprehensive logistics solutions such as ocean freight, air freight, project logistics, and warehousing. The two companies will work together to create adaptable, scalable models that strengthen supply chain resilience amid global market changes. These efforts aim to ensure operational excellence and support CATL’s continued international expansion.

Accelerating Logistics Electrification and Emission Reduction

Beyond logistics collaboration, Maersk and CATL will jointly promote the electrification of key logistics operations, applying CATL’s advanced battery technologies to container shipping, ports, inland transportation, and warehousing. The cooperation will include the design of electric systems, energy management, and end-of-life battery recycling initiatives. Under this MoU, CATL will serve as Maersk’s preferred battery technology partner, supporting its long-term decarbonisation strategy.

Maersk has set a goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Through this collaboration, the companies aim to co-develop practical and scalable electrification solutions that can significantly reduce emissions across the logistics sector.

“Our partnership with CATL represents an important step in redefining sustainable logistics,” said Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Energy Transition at Maersk. “By combining Maersk’s logistics network with CATL’s leading battery technologies, we can accelerate the decarbonisation of supply chains globally, benefiting not just our companies but the entire industry.”

CATL, meanwhile, is pursuing carbon neutrality across its core operations by 2025 and throughout its battery supply chain by 2035.

“Both CATL and Maersk share a common vision for a carbon-neutral future,” said Libin Tan, Chief Customer Officer and Co-President of Sales & Marketing at CATL. “This partnership allows us to deepen cooperation in shipping, end-to-end logistics, digitalisation, and new energy applications to jointly advance the global energy transition.”

Together, Maersk and CATL intend to leverage their combined expertise to set new standards for low-emission logistics and drive innovation across the global transport and energy landscape.
