Index of Sovereignty from Bechtle to Provide Clear Framework for Building Resilient IT Architectures

(IN BRIEF) Bechtle AG is introducing the Bechtle Index of Sovereignty, a new software-based methodology to help organisations evaluate and improve their digital sovereignty. Launching in Q1 2026, the Index will measure three dimensions—data ownership, technological independence, and strategic autonomy—providing businesses and public-sector institutions with transparency on digital dependencies and risks. Backed by a nationwide support network, the assessment will guide organisations toward building IT architectures that are sovereign, resilient, and aligned with European values. According to EVP Dr Martin Kaloudis and CEO Dr Thomas Olemotz, the Index represents a practical benchmark for moving beyond debate into concrete action, enabling enterprises to strengthen their digital independence through choice, robustness, and resilience.

(PRESS RELEASE) NECKARSULM, 29-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Bechtle AG, Germany’s largest IT system house and one of Europe’s leading IT service providers, is preparing to launch a new benchmark designed to measure and strengthen digital sovereignty. With its proprietary Bechtle Index of Sovereignty, the company is creating a software-based methodology that will allow both private and public-sector organisations to assess their level of digital independence, pinpoint risks, and implement practical measures to ensure their IT architectures remain resilient and future-ready. The new tool will be available from the first quarter of 2026.

The Bechtle Index evaluates three core dimensions—data ownership, technological independence, and strategic autonomy. By applying the methodology, organisations gain transparency around their digital dependencies and can develop strategies to strengthen their sovereignty. The solution combines software with a structured sovereignty assessment, offering clients a comprehensive approach to building IT systems that are robust, adaptable, and aligned with European standards.

Dr Martin Kaloudis, Executive Vice President at Bechtle, emphasised the growing demand for actionable guidance: “Organisations want clarity in how they can retain control of their digital infrastructure without losing alignment with European regulations and values. With our four decades of experience as a vendor-independent IT partner, we believe the Bechtle Index of Sovereignty will serve as a strategic instrument, providing evidence-based insights that enable our customers to make informed, independent decisions.”

Bechtle will roll out the Index in early 2026 through its nationwide system house network in Germany. Customers engaging with the assessment will be supported before, during, and after the process, receiving detailed evaluations of risks and dependencies alongside practical recommendations for optimising their IT landscapes. “Digital sovereignty cannot remain a theoretical discussion—it requires concrete implementation across processes, data, and technology,” said Dr Thomas Olemotz, CEO of Bechtle AG. “The Bechtle Index of Sovereignty sets a new European benchmark, offering organisations a pragmatic way to measure progress and strengthen their IT architectures.”

Central to Bechtle’s approach are three guiding principles: freedom of choice across technology providers, robustness in the face of disruption, and resilience through diversified strategies and viable exit options. The company stresses that digital sovereignty is not about technological isolation, but about creating transparent, manageable, and secure operating models. With this initiative, Bechtle aims to position the Index as a key component of enterprise risk management and a cornerstone of Europe’s digital future.
