STRABAG and Georgiou to transform Perth’s northeastern transport corridor with new grade-separated interchanges

(IN BRIEF) Georgiou Group, part of the STRABAG Group, has won a €125 million contract from the Department of Main Roads Western Australia to upgrade two key intersections on Perth’s Reid Highway. The project will transform the Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road intersections into grade-separated interchanges, improving safety and reducing congestion along a critical freight and commuter route. Scheduled for completion in 2028, the works also include a new bridge and underpasses for pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing access to the Swan Valley tourism region. Jointly funded by the Australian Federal and Western Australian governments, the project underscores STRABAG’s expansion into Australia and Georgiou’s strengthened role as part of a global infrastructure leader.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 26-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Georgiou Group, now part of the STRABAG Group since March 2025, has secured a major design-and-build contract worth approximately €125 million to modernise key intersections along Perth’s Reid Highway. Awarded by the Department of Main Roads Western Australia, the project will transform the Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road intersections into grade-separated interchanges, addressing congestion and improving safety on one of Western Australia’s busiest freight and commuter corridors. Preparatory works are already underway, with project completion scheduled for 2028.

The Reid Highway plays a vital role as part of the region’s east–west transport link, supporting heavy freight movement and daily traffic. By replacing two heavily congested intersections with bridged interchanges, the upgrades will ensure safer, more efficient, and reliable journeys for freight operators and commuters alike.

In addition to boosting traffic flow, the project will deliver new infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, including a bridge and underpasses that will improve accessibility to the popular Swan Valley wine and tourism region. The initiative is jointly funded by the Australian Federal Government and the Government of Western Australia, reflecting its importance for both local mobility and the national freight network.

Highlighting the significance of the project, Siegfried Wanker, Member of the Management Board for STRABAG SE’s International + Special Divisions segment, said: “Australia is a prime example of our principle of global-local presence. This project marks a milestone in our shared journey with Georgiou and demonstrates the potential of our long-term partnership.”

For Georgiou, the contract showcases how local expertise is strengthened through STRABAG’s global capabilities. For STRABAG, the acquisition of Georgiou Group marks a strategic expansion into Australia, doubling its non-European business and further reinforcing long-term resilience with stable conditions and high compliance standards.
