Flexam Invest secures €50 million EIF commitment for Kartesia Asset Finance III to boost SME and mid-cap financing in Europe

(IN BRIEF) Flexam Invest has secured a €50 million investment from the European Investment Fund (EIF) in its Kartesia Asset Finance III (KAF III) fund, partially backed by the EU’s InvestEU programme. With this commitment, KAF III has now raised nearly €200 million at its second closing, moving toward its €500 million target. The fund will support around 30 transactions for SMEs and mid-cap companies across Europe, financing projects that drive growth, decarbonisation, and industrial transformation through essential mobile assets such as helicopters, maritime vessels, and logistics systems. Flexam Invest, which became part of Kartesia in 2023, has built a strong reputation in sustainable infrastructure financing and continues to grow rapidly, with its workforce increasing by 80% in the past two years. Both EIF and Flexam highlighted that this partnership will strengthen support for European SMEs while contributing to the EU’s sustainability and green transition goals.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS/LUXEMBOURG, 11-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Flexam Invest, a specialist in financing tangible industrial assets for European SMEs and mid-cap companies, has secured a major commitment from the European Investment Fund (EIF), which is investing €50 million in Kartesia Asset Finance III (KAF III). This third-generation fund has now attracted close to €200 million at its second closing, with a target size of €500 million.

The EIF’s participation is partially backed by the InvestEU programme, designed to mobilise more than €372 billion in investment between 2021 and 2027 to support EU policy goals, including the green transition and SME financing. Through KAF III, funding will be directed toward approximately 30 transactions that focus on growth, decarbonisation, and transformation. Each investment will be secured by mobile assets such as rescue helicopters, maritime crew transfer vessels, and advanced logistics systems that are critical to the borrowers’ operations.

KAF III builds on the strong track record of Flexam Invest, which since its founding in 2011 has established itself as a recognised asset manager in private debt and sustainable industrial infrastructure. The firm’s investment strategy spans mission-critical services like emergency transport, industrial mobility across rail, maritime, aviation, and intermodal transport, as well as automation and logistics.

In 2023, Flexam Invest joined forces with Kartesia, one of Europe’s leading capital providers for SMEs, creating significant synergies and strengthening its fundraising capacity. Over the past two years, Flexam has also seen its workforce grow by 80%, reflecting its strong momentum and growing role in supporting sustainable real economy projects.

Commenting on the new partnership, Marjut Falkstedt, Managing Director of the EIF, said:
“We are delighted to announce this collaboration with Flexam Invest, a key player in real asset financing. Our mission is to help Europe’s SMEs and mid-cap companies secure the financing they need to scale, innovate, and transition to more sustainable operations. This partnership is an important step toward that goal.”

Florian de Sigy, Chairman and Partner of Flexam Invest, added:
“This investment from the EIF is a strong endorsement of our strategy and of the work carried out by our teams. It reinforces our position as a trusted partner for European SMEs and mid-caps and equips us with the resources to launch new sustainable financing operations in line with Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability objectives.”

About the European Investment Fund

The European Investment Fund (EIF) is part of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group. It supports Europe’s SMEs by improving their access to finance through a wide range of selected financial intermediaries. The EIF designs, promotes and implements equity and debt financing instruments targeting SMEs. In this role, the EIF fosters EU objectives in support of entrepreneurship, growth, innovation, research and development, the green and digital transitions and employment.

About InvestEU

The InvestEU programme provides the European Union with crucial long-term funding by leveraging substantial private and public funds in support of a sustainable economy. It helps generate additional investments in line with EU policy priorities, such as the European Green Deal, the digital transition and support for small and medium-sized enterprises. InvestEU brings all EU financial instruments together under one roof, making funding for investment projects in Europe simpler, more efficient and more flexible. The programme consists of three components: the InvestEU Fund, the InvestEU Advisory Hub, and the InvestEU Portal. The InvestEU Fund is implemented through financial partners who invest in projects using the EU budget guarantee of €26.2 billion. This guarantee increases their risk-bearing capacity, thus mobilising at least €372 billion in additional investment.
