MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 Tires Deliver Fuel Savings, Longevity, and Performance for Construction and Waste-Management Fleets

(IN BRIEF) Michelin’s new MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 tire range offers improved fuel savings, longer lifespan, and exceptional performance in the construction and waste-management sectors. The tires feature innovative designs that reduce CO2 emissions, enhance traction, and provide high levels of durability and retreadability. The launch of the MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 range aligns with industry efforts to optimize fleet operations while meeting environmental standards. Available in multiple sizes, the tires offer a robust solution for fleets looking to improve their profitability and support the ecological transition.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 14-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Michelin has unveiled its latest innovation in tire technology with the launch of the MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 tire range. Designed for the rigorous demands of on- and off-road applications, these tires provide exceptional fuel savings and extended durability, while maintaining essential performance aspects such as traction, robustness, and grip on diverse terrains.

The MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 tires represent a breakthrough in optimizing profitability and supporting the ecological transition for vehicle fleets operating in the construction and waste-management sectors. The tires’ design incorporates cutting-edge technological advancements, allowing for reduced CO2 emissions, a longer lifespan, and superior performance, even under the most challenging conditions.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Reduced CO2 Emissions: The new tread design reduces rolling resistance, which contributes to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. These tires are the first of their kind to achieve a B label for rolling resistance on the steer axle, aligning with the industry’s push for more sustainable solutions.
  • Extended Lifespan: The MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 range offers a significant improvement in tire durability, with the steer axle tires lasting up to 10% longer and the drive axle tires up to 25% longer compared to the previous generation. This leads to reduced replacement costs and longer intervals between tire changes.
  • High Robustness and Retreadability: The MICHELIN X® Works tires are built to last, with 90% of casings eligible for REMIX retreading. The advanced sidewall protectors enhance tire durability, ensuring that they can handle the demanding conditions of construction and waste-management operations.
  • Electric Vehicle Compatibility: With a load index of 158/150, the new tires can support up to 8.5 tonnes for single fitment, which is an improvement over the previous model’s 8-tonne capacity. This is particularly important as the industry moves toward electric vehicles (EVs) and their associated weight requirements.
  • Superior Traction and Grip: The tires maintain excellent traction and grip throughout their lifespan, even under challenging conditions, and are certified with the 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) marking. This ensures improved mobility and performance in various weather and terrain conditions.

Launch and Availability:

The MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 tire range was officially launched on June 1, 2025 in the 315/80R22.5 size, followed by the 13R22.5 X® Works Z2 & D2 and 385/65 X® Works HL Z2 sizes in September 2025. These tires are designed for short on- and off-road journeys in regional and urban areas, and are now available across Europe for both steer and drive axles.

A Solution for the Future of Fleets:

Fleet managers in the construction and waste-management sectors face several challenges, including high fuel costs (which account for up to 30% of operational expenses) and the need to comply with EU regulations on CO2 emissions. The MICHELIN X® Works Z2 & D2 range addresses these challenges by reducing operating costs, enhancing vehicle efficiency, and lowering environmental impact.

With a focus on minimizing vehicle downtime—a key factor in maintaining profitability—this new range of tires ensures improved reliability and performance, even in demanding operational environments.
