ORLEN Secures Second LNG Supply Contract with Naftogaz to Bolster Ukraine’s Energy Security

ORLEN Secures Second LNG Supply Contract with Naftogaz to Bolster Ukraine’s Energy Security

(IN BRIEF) ORLEN and Naftogaz of Ukraine have signed a new natural gas supply contract, ensuring deliveries for Ukrainian consumers starting in April. This is the second contract under a cooperation agreement signed earlier this year, with the gas being sourced from the United States. The latest deal involves approximately 100 million cubic meters of gas, which ORLEN will secure through an LNG cargo destined for the Świnoujście LNG terminal in Poland. After undergoing regasification, the gas will be transported to the Polish-Ukrainian border. CEO and President of the ORLEN Management Board, Ireneusz Fąfara, highlighted the competitiveness of ORLEN’s offer and its role in bolstering Ukraine’s energy diversification and security. Roman Chumak, Acting Chairman of Naftogaz Ukraine, stressed that stable gas supplies are paramount, particularly amid ongoing challenges to infrastructure. The previous contract, also signed in March 2025, involved the delivery of an additional 100 million cubic meters of gas via the Klaipeda terminal in Lithuania. Both agreements are based on a memorandum of understanding that cements the collaboration between ORLEN and Naftogaz in securing reliable natural gas supplies.

(PRESS RELEASE) PŁOCK, 18-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Orlen S.A. (WSE: PKN), a Polish oil refiner and petrol retailer, and Naftogaz of Ukraine have solidified their strategic partnership by signing a new natural gas supply contract that will secure deliveries for Ukrainian consumers as early as April. This marks the second agreement under the cooperation framework established between the two companies earlier this year, with the gas sourced directly from the United States.

Under this latest transaction, approximately 100 million cubic meters of natural gas will be supplied to Naftogaz. To facilitate this, ORLEN has secured an LNG cargo from the U.S. that is scheduled for delivery at the Świnoujście LNG terminal in Poland. Following the regasification process at the terminal, the gas will then be transported to the Polish-Ukrainian border, ensuring a steady and reliable supply for Ukraine.

“We are delighted to secure another contract to supply gas to Naftogaz, which underscores the competitiveness of ORLEN’s offer. By leveraging our trading expertise and experience in the U.S. market, we are able to present attractive commercial terms to our partners. Additionally, we take pride in contributing to Ukraine’s energy diversification, which in turn reinforces our neighbor’s energy security,” stated Ireneusz Fąfara, CEO and President of the ORLEN Management Board.

Roman Chumak, Acting Chairman of the Board at Naftogaz Ukraine, added, “Ensuring stable gas supplies is our top priority. Our collaboration with ORLEN enhances Ukraine’s LNG import capacity and bolsters our energy security by diversifying our supply sources. This is especially crucial in the current environment of ongoing Russian attacks on our infrastructure.”

This recent contract is the second such supply agreement signed in March 2025 between ORLEN and Naftogaz. The previous contract ensures that Ukraine will also receive 100 million cubic meters of natural gas from an LNG cargo delivered via the Klaipeda terminal in Lithuania, where ORLEN has secured long-term regasification capacity.

Both of these transactions are executed under a memorandum of understanding on natural gas supply cooperation, signed earlier this year by ORLEN and Naftogaz, solidifying their commitment to ensuring reliable and diversified energy supplies for Ukraine.
