From then, graduates of both Trinity College Dublin and the National University of Ireland (NUI) will collectively elect six Senators to the Seanad’s Higher Education constituency, marking a significant shift in Ireland’s political landscape.

A Final Election for a Historic Constituency

This election, which opens with ballots sent to over 76,000 registered voters on December 30, 2024, and closes on January 29, 2025, will conclude the constituency’s 87-year history. Established in 1938, the University of Dublin constituency has been represented by notable figures, including former President Mary Robinson, activist Owen Sheehy-Skeffington, and former Minister Shane Ross.
